US education system K-12 collapse will make finsec crisis worse...

Clearly this will make global finsec crisis worse for the US due to all of the carry on effects. The global finsec crisis will last for more decades for the US as well because of this problem.

    Because
    • Western Europe
    • Eastern Europe
    • Australia, Canada & NZ
    • Japan, and other parts of Asia with adequately functioning education systems (although there are some creativity issues here)

have had better functioning education systems than the US -- these nations will leave the crisis sooner as well as adapting to its systemic problems better.

The K-12 problems in the US are profound, and not new -- the collapse was all but permanent at the end of the Cold War (1989-1992).

The US has a vast part of its population, of Adult age (but young aka Under 40) -- that is not interested in learning and totally out of touch with reality.

For about ~35% of the US public school population, it is almost impossible to distinguish between Special Education kids and the normal ones (NB: The SP ED kids are at least more obedient or academically inclined, Believe it or not...).

Unlike in the 1930s when the economy collapsed -- the education system held in a simi-intact sate. The end result was a boom time after WWII ... and intense technological and social innovations and changes.

That will not happen with this Titanic Hyperdepression, the US will go from a so called Wealthy Nation and World Power to a has been that is at best like a upmarket Rhodesia.

The US population with 1982-Present HS graduation dates is not like this so called American Imperialist "Greatest Generation" (it is not a Canadian or Mexican concept, least you forget).

By the argument, Iceland, Ireland, Switzerland, Korea and the UK should all be in decent shape much faster than the US; students in these countries scored better than the US students in the 2006 PISA.

Don't get me wrong. I am pro-education. But how much brilliance is required to offset the trillions in debt the youth are inheriting? Just how superior must their brains be relative to deal with the coming energy crisis? How clever must they be to deal with funding an aging population which is clinging to to expensive entitlement programs?

Yes, a better educated, more responsible and hard working generation would be better at dealing with the pain that is ahead. I can't help but wonder if the 'Greatest Generation' was born great or were they made great by the situations they were forced to confront?

if 1/10 of the russian population is as well educated as the russians here on the tulip, and the usa gov't gets as bad as russia's and russia's as 'good' as the usa's... we meet in the middle... we are seriously fucked.

Well, you have made one very profound point that had not directly crossed my mind:

Young Americans are intellectually unprepared to not only understand how much debt is on their head, but they are even more intellectually unprepared to pay it off.

In a lot of finance system collapses in the 20th century, the young in the nations where the finance system collapsed were at least nominally prepared to understand and cope with the crisis (at least where a war was not involved in the creation of the crisis) -- but from my knowledge [of the US in the post Cold War era] this is just not the case.

Russia or rather the former USSR to be more precise had a very high quality educational system, especially in certain areas dear to the Russian soul such as mathematics and art, less so in other areas such as medicine where quantity seems to have had a higher priority.

There are Russian peculiarities embedded here that are not immediately understandable to the average westerner, for example I heard back in the tough '98 era that the Russian mafia / bandit organizations would not touch artists, and had that anecdotally confirmed once in an odd encounter.

I'm not knowledgeable in detail about this, never having lived there, perhaps some of the Russian participants could comment.
