In Canada, mortgage interest costs are not tax deductible, hence 401(k) [RRSPs as they are called here] are one of the most important tax shelter. I thus assume that the hit to RRSP is hitting Canadians much harder.
Based on the below-noted clip, it seems that we have nothing to worry about because our banks "are fine" (:rolleyes
...well that is until housing prices correct due to a 80% real gain since 2000, but details, details...
