Re: Deep Capture lecture on naked short selling

I have found a distinct coolness towards Patrick Byrne's assertions here at Itulip - perhaps because if the assertions are true, then the stock market is not as robust as it appears -- and if the stock market is not robust, then other markets are not perfect either -- and market perfection is the mainstay of modern capitalistic economic theory.

That last was the basis for the formula that brought about the current crisis

This approach to Economics was what caused me to walk out on my thesis advisor (who later won a Nobel) almost thirty years ago.

My own forays into modelling leveraged assets led me to the firm conclusion that the Stock Markets are much more thinly traded than is apparant, and therefore susceptible to much greater volatility and hence catastrophic collapse. I got out of the stock market in 2001.

The causes of this were not readily apparant at that time. Patrick Byrne's assertion along with some of my conclusions, go a long way to explain the anamolies I observed when doing my modelling and subsequent testing of those models.
