There is no forum to discuss the video's posted on the main page, so I'm going to just put a quick comment in here. The Bush/Cheney administration is the absolute worst leadership this country has seen since Ulysses Grant (or possibly Warren Harding). I know this is more economics/finance/investor focused website, but if there is a USA, Inc, then the President is undoubtedly the CEO, and the Congress the Board of Directors. The Bush administration has been flagrantly fraudulent, greedy, nepotistic, unreasonable, irrational, undiplomatic, and the biggest perpetrators of outright lying rhetoric and propaganda.

I knew, I freakin just KNEW that I should have bought some HAL back in 2003. Stock price is up 3x since '03, before dividends. Duh. The next time a Bush gets anywhere near Pennsylvania avenue I'm buying nothing but oil.

I know this is more just a rant, and not likely to do anything to help the situation, but there I firmly believe there is a definite link between the economy at large and the leadership of our country. IMO I see bearishness right where it is needed at most - straight at the top. The latest video posted is fundamental evidence of this.

sorry about that Finster... I just found that video and the macroeconomic effects that are discussed here are very applicable. Maybe consider that also a suggestion to discuss the videos posted as a seperate forum? (like there is the polls forum..)

Just one person's guess, DemonD ... EJ is the final arbiter of such things. For sure, if he were to set up a forum for political material or commented on such matters himself that would be a strong signal it is fair game. I understand your point about the interconnectedness of these issues, and it is hard to draw bright lines, but may be a bit sensitive for fear of a kind of slippery slope effect - another once-excellent financial forum I used to frequent eventually got so swamped by partisan political material and negativity that good financial commentary became like a needle in a haystack. Having taken refuge here, I just wouldn't want to see the same thing repeat.

Difficult to assess markets without also considering politics. I've made repeated references to USA, Inc., its leaders, and the value of a share in the nation's common stock, the bonar. The question is, what is the right forum for this discussion? We don't want every discussion of markets to turn into a political argument, but then we need a place to talk over what's going on in the US and international political arena. The videos we run tend to elicit political discussions, so a forum to discuss the videos makes sense. So we've created one.

No special rules, just the usual: respect your fellow iTulip community members–don't say anything to anyone on a forum that you wouldn't say to their face.

It appears there already was a forum for politics (under Topics). DemonD and I both apparently missed it. This being the case, it's not clear that yet more forums would be helpful, especially if they are broken down by subject matter, but by the medium that happens to carry it. One can imagine a proliferation of fora for TV, radio, cassette tape, vinyl, DVD, LCD, 8 track ...

Perhaps it would be better to simply put the thread under the Politics topic?
