I went through university in Europe surrounded by people like this self righteous young ideologue. Very educational experience! The single most definining attribute to bind them all, was the utter conviction they were right in every last detail. Self-doubt, or self-questioning any of one's core convictions was considered almost indistinguishable from moral decay by acolytes of this world-view. Doubting any single one of one's assertions was quivalent to moral weakness. Needless to say, at the ripe old age of 22, I had already figured out where they were coming from, and where they would wind up. :rolleyes: Moral absolutists are a little bit dangerous, in whatever form they are packaged.

That's quite right - we're counting on the Yankees to save our asses militarily. But on the other hand when I mentioned this to someone recently he gave a quite succinct reply: "If the Americans are coming, they're here to get our last oil". That didn't exactly make my day.
