Scientists From Around the Globe Join ABC News in a Forum on Surviving the Century

Are we living in the last century of our civilization? Is it possible that all of our technology, knowledge and wealth cannot save us from ourselves? Could our society actually be heading towards collapse?

According to many of the world's top scientists, the answer is yes, unless we take action now.

This September, in Earth 2100, a dramatic ABC News 2-hour broadcast, the greatest minds across the globe will join together in a countdown to the year 2100 to tell us what we must do to survive the next century … And what may happen if we don't.

The time to act is now, says Peter Gleick, president of the Pacific Institute.
"The 21st century is going to be the century which determine[s] whether we live or die as a sustainable species," Gleick said. "As populations grow, as our use of resources grows, I think we get closer and closer to that edge."

Re: Forum on Surviving the Century

The upheaval you are witnessing in the financial markets and throughout the world is a long foreseen event that runs concurrent with an evolutionary shift beyond the constraints of our present Mental Species. It is truly the Twilight of the Mental Creation and a preparation for a new Consciousness and Species called the “Supramental”. You will not get a satisfactory explanation of current events from business gurus, politicians, scientists or even religious figures as to what is happening because most of them are still trapped in an old, partial and fragmented understanding that characterizes the Mental species. But for those who SEE, the financial chaos that we see around us is simply a symptom of the breakdown of an old outmoded financial model which, to quote David Korten, has created an unsustainable system of exploitation:

“…left to its own design, it creates an unstable power disparity through the concentration of wealth among a small and exclusive upper class versus an impoverished and dis-empowered working class, bankrupt communities, overstressed ecosystems and a depleted resource base.”

Seers and prophets of all persuasions agree that this period in human history would be characterized by a radical upheaval of that kind of status quo. One need only examine the phenomenon and implications of “Peak Oil” for confirmation of what is coming. In 1975 Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet, one of the most prescient seers of our time, interpreted the enigmatic passages and symbolism of St. John’s Revelation. They describe exactly what has happened on Wall Street since the Fall of 2007:
“…The Whore of Babylon is the consciousness of Materialism that reigns upon the Earth. She is the Whore that usurps the energies which should be channeled upward toward the higher ranges of consciousness. Yet the Earth has fallen under the sway of her power. The Great Whore is described as sitting upon many waters... a symbol of consciousness. It is she with whom the kings of the Earth have committed fornication. The kings are the political leaders of today and the global corporate oligarchs. They lie with the Whore collaborating in her pathological materialism. All during her rise, the world has slept, drunk with her wine and displaying her wealth. Babylon of our time is Sex and Money. She is the great scourge of our time which sucks dry the resources of the planet to satisfy the greed that is carrying the world to its doom. But the hour of God draws near. Babylon the fornicating whore, the queen of money power must soon collapse under the weight of her wicked and destructive accumulated energy. And when the moment of her collapse arrives, it is sudden and quick. Up to the end she will appear triumphantly powerful, because she cannot see her own condition. The most prominent characteristic of the moment of her downfall is the apparent increase of her splendor and glory. The moment she is most secure in her victory is the moment of her furious collapse, “therefore shall her plagues come in one day…” Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! (she is also Rome) For in one hour is thy judgment come.” Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet – The Hidden Manna - St. John’s Revlation - 1975.

This is not a question of religious retribution or apocalyptic doom-saying. It is simply a matter of consciousness moving beyond Greed and the Ego as a viable foundation for business management.
Will we survive it? Of course we will but it will require a radical change in perspective and lifestyle.
