Re: Thought Crime?
don't worry about it, man - just relax, dude.
No one is putting their jackboots to your neck. Things are great where you are, aren't they?
Things are FINE. NO PROBLEMO.
After all, the only thing you need to do to STOP evil is to loudly deny that it is happening, and loudly shout down those who say it is happening.
and as all the great patriots say, the defense of liberty requires eternal denial and the repetitive sticking of heads in sand.
Besides, since you've never lived under a REAL repressive regime, you really have no right to complain - just let the trustworthy gov protect you from those nasty, unforeseen threats - besides, I bet Rosie O'Donnell is trying to build nukes in her basement.
(wish there was a way for me to post this secretly & unhide it later, but too bad ...
for the sarcasm impaired who reach this point believing I'm serious, please put this whole post inside <sarcasm></sarcasm> tags)

Re: Thought Crime?
Jeff Flake is someone that we haven't mentioned, but he is right up there with Paul and Kucinich as I understand it in terms of being one of the few really good guys out there. His thing is he will not attach earmarks to his district (no "pork.") Saw an interview with him once, and what he said is that while 1 in 100 people will give him flack for not getting them their due (their federal pork money), everyone he meets on the streets and in person encourages him to keep up his policy and not add wasteful moneys to bills.
Just goes to show you that party affiliation doesn't matter, an elected representative can be good or bad either way, of course mostly bad but it is always heartening to see there are a few people out there that do care.
Just saw his website, and he even has an "egregious earmark of the week" on there:

Congressman Flake Spotlights Egregious Earmark of the Week
$375,000 for Dairy Farm Profitability in Pennsylvania
Mesa, Arizona, Jan 4 - Republican Congressman Jeff Flake, who represents Arizona’s Sixth District, today highlighted a pork project contained in the Omnibus Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2008.
This week’s egregious earmark: $375,000 for dairy farm profitability in Pennsylvania.
“Taxpayers deserve butter than this,” said Flake.
