  • Here's how the FIRE bullhorn works

3 things make people feel good or bad: home prices, investment performance, and jobs.

Jobs are the most important as it is the single most common denominator.

    So far so good.

Jobs: it is a matter of people don't have the right skills.

    Here's where the bulls**t begins.

The private sector can help with that. The government and banks can make more loans for training. University of Phoenix. etc etc.

For whatever reason I got the commercial - crystal clear and snappy - no video followed, just a couple of minutes of 'loading' followed by closing links info. Wtf?

    On what troubles most people:

Lose your job, most don't give a shit about any of the rest. Having a job, in this market, makes people feel okay. (often the case it's not the job they want and they feel underpayed but what are you going do)

The price of houses may be more bubble nostalgia then an evergreen happy pop. The bubble made home 'owners' feel magnificent. Every morning they couldn't wait to see how much they had 'made' overnight. Their however temporary pass into FIRE. They miss that getting-something-for nothing feeling. They miss the heat.

Investment performance - a smaller cull. Here one often blames oneself on bad choices. A string of killer picks - bonfire of the vanities.

The smoke screen of education has both legs and a little actual fire under it. Remember the Clinton Daze of Internet Jobs for All! Give 'em credit, it was beautiful cover for NAFTA. Let the Mexicans do the work while us Gringos type.

Now, of course, it's common knowledge on the 'tulip that education has been engulfed by FIRE.

What's the chances we're going to see BS fatigue, including increased voter alienation and apathy in the next prez-circus olay? Just a feeling on the streets. The tired out propaganda doesn't seem to gaining much traction.

You raise a good point here, that I'd not considered. I certainly can believe a very different voting demographic in 2010 than we saw in 2008. It seems like this apathy would make matters worse, by reducing voter engagement. On the other hand, if only the really impassioned people are voting, perhaps the outcome of the election will result in politicians more responsive to their constituents? On the *third* hand more impassioned does not mean more informed.

How do you imagine this might affect the elections?
