    Key points:

    Parking in 2009: $3 for downtown, $0.25 for residential
    Parking in 2011: $5 for downtown, $1.25 for residential

    City must pay when streets with parking meters have a community event like a festival or parade

    Total revenue estimated from meters will be more than 10 times $1.1 billion paid for them.

    Matt Taibbi covered the Chicago parking meters privatization issue quite thoroughly in his recent book, Griftopia. Really worth reading.
