These ideas are usually strangled in the cradle by the monopolies.

Capitalism, once the most dynamic economy in history, has become essentially a brake on dynamism.

Historically that has meant it's time for a change.

Bankrupt epochs seldom go quietly.

In the resulting chaos, the importance of open-sourcing will be multiplied exponentially.

This looks like a nice project but, I could get the schematics of most "non-open source" tractor and farm equipment from the past to the present and build/fix a tractor.

Many of the third world farmers would still prefer using mules, oxen, or carrying water on their head than fooling around with engineering/building a tractor. Just observe how many people prefer to use the simplicity of apple computers and phones/PC's even though open source products such as linux are more secure and robust.

I am assuming the target for this product is some rural farmers in the third world, yet it seems to be a diy hippie led movement to get off the grid.

There is also the concept of comparative advantage, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparative_advantage, a farmer may be better off producing than engineering, the amount of education and knowledge that would need to be gained by the the target third world is massive to put these open source tools into effect. In the end they too would have to become a specialized society where there would be a mechanic in the village, a metal worker, etc.
