Re: Eric Janszen (EJ!) interviews Elizabeth Warren for The Postcatastrophe Economy
Congratulations to whoever produced that video, it is very nicely done!
There are rumors that Elizabeth Warren was seen coming out of the White house yesterday afternoon. I would guess that she is being offered the head of the new consumer agency. I think this is a waste of her talents and an attempt to appease the left. But the attempt by Geithner/Summers to put her in a toothless agency where she'll be forgotten may come back to haunt them when they realize she's not going to just shutup and play ball.

I was fortunate enough to score one of the galleys for 'Post-Catastrophe' and noticed yesterday while I was reading that Warren had been quoted. I was hoping that an interview would be released here in full-length. And, voila!

at the end of the interview she mentions that 'we can't borrow anymore', most likely this interview was done a while ago. But, currently bond yields are at record lows, everyday news record low yields, and the reality is we can borrow more, and the US is in the process of borrowing more. And people are lending to the government and letting it happen.

Eric asks "How were Americans convinced to use credit to buy depreciating assets was a good idea?"
Warren "We see the launch of the stiringing of growth of consumer credit."
Both agree in the 70's things start to go bad. But neither mentions a country filled with people who don't think about their actions. Are most unable to think and only react to what makes them happy?
Eric Janszen always paints a picture of certain outcomes based on human behavior. To me it is his greatest strength.

Thanks for posting this.
Elizabeth Warren deserves our attention and highest regard. She has done great research on government records to chart how the American dream and easy credit have made a highly combustible mix.
If you are interested in further reading on how we got to this precipice, you should check out The Two Income Trap: Why Middle Class Parents Are Going Broke, which Prof. Warren co-authored in 2004 with her daughter Amelia Tyagi.
You may disagree with Warren's sympathies-- they clearly lie with the consumer borrowers-- but the insight she provides about our society and present predicament are profound.
I am very much looking forward to reading EJ's book!
Bravo!
