You know, what is really horrendous is that it is soooo easy to defraud the system, through fake numbers, fake id, identity theft, etc. The best example really comes from real estate, where examples have been found of 2 people selling the same house back and forth 5 times through different banks and agents each time; they pocket the profits until they can't go any further, then the last person in just hands the keys back to the bank.
I've read some small reports that gangs, felons, mafia, and even terrorist organizations have been raising funds doing this.
Makes me sick to my stomach. I still remember working in place where a bill collector called for a former employee. Why was she a former employee? Well at the time of that call, she had been dead 7 months from ovarian cancer.
Yeah. System works just fine, eh?
