Re: Truth of taxation part 1

Reminds me of a certain very smart tax auditor who came to a motel on the Gold Coast (Queensland Australia) way back in 70's when credit cards were a rare thing and most paid in cash. Two books were kept of course. he audited the "fake" accounts and found them in perfect order, everything tallied to the cent (as it was intended). As he was wrapping up he asked about the "free morning newspaper" that was complementary with a room breakfast. All he wanted to know was how many people ticked the box for a paper. The proprietor was rather effusive about how it sold the breakfasts and helped the bottom line and probably 95 % + people ticked for a paper. He nodded in agreement and left.
A week latter he returned with an order claiming $950,000 including fine for back taxes. The proprietor had a fainting spell then said he would fight it as his books were squeaky clean as the auditor had previously stated. The Tax Auditor then threw down the motels Newspapers A/C's for the last 5 years with calculation that 80% of people ticked the box with breakfast. My Dad realized he was Toast and wrote a cheque on the spot.
