  • Chalmers Johnson's Decline of Empires: The Signs of Decay (63min.)

Due to positive feedback, I am reposting this interview for iTulipers who may have missed it.

The movie is from one of my favorite author: Chalmers Johnson and author of Blowback.

Chalmers Johnson, author of Blowback, Sorrows of Empire and Nemesis: The Last Days of the American Republic , talks about the similarities in the decline of the Roman and Soviet empires and the signs that the U.S. empire is exhibiting the same symptoms: overextension, corruption and the inability to reform.

Chalmers Johnson is president of the Japan Policy Research Institute, a non-profit research and public affairs organization devoted to public education concerning Japan and international relations in the Pacific. http://www.jpri.org/
    Runtime: 63min.

Took my wife to the airport this morning. On the way back, at 5:30AM, NPR is discussing the 'upgrading' of US military planning in Korea from conceptional to operational. Cue Chalmers, professor....

don, I think the U.S. army should be called "Offense" rather than "Defense".

Anyway, this week, a 20-year old Canadian kid blew himself up in Afghanistan while trying to defuse a bomb.
