Re: Collapse of Las Vagas...Lost Vegas.

Use the word that conveys your meaning.

So, irregardless of the below, use irregardless when regardless does not suit your purposes.

Hopefully you do know when to use it, and when not to.

Thankfully and gratefully, English does NOT have an "Académie française", (and even the French ignore them)

    Pronunciation:
    \ˌir-i-ˈgärd-ləs\
    Function:
    adverb
    Etymology:
probably blend of irrespective and regardless
    Date:
    circa 1912
    nonstandard : regardless
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

That is a great point. The Strip is fine.... It's the "locals" casinos that are showing real weakness.

vegas is a gambling theme tourist town, and every tourist town in the usa is the same story... a core of 'preserved' tourist economy & decimation all around just a block or two out.

i live in south florida and what you said is pretty true. You go to south beach and hit the normal strips its sunshine rainbows. You hit downtown Miami and you have half empty condos and bums every where. But even the tourism is faultering now. They said tourism is WAY off down here and the hotels are crapping themselves trying to figure out what to do.

WSOP Main Event champs appreciate the invite

              By PokerListings.com

The World Series of Poker is always a good place to find the world's top players in action.

However, the first ever WSOP Champions Invitational event brought together the largest collection of Main Event winners ever assembled for one tournament at the Rio today.

              ...
Despite the scheduling conflict and the fact first prize is nothing more than a re-built 1970 Corvette, the event is still a fan favorite.

Update on Laura Ling, narrator and main interviewer in Lost Vegas. Moral of the story seems to be if you are an American NEVER go anywhere near North Korea, even if you think you are probably on the Chinese side of the border.

It appears the North Koreans view her as a pawn in the high stakes nuclear stand-off with the U.S. and are willing to sentence her to 10 years hard labor if that what it takes to play hardball.

"...Analyst Choi Eun-suk, a professor of North Korean law at Kyungnam University, said the court could convict the women and then the government could use them as bargaining chips in negotiations with the U.S.

..."All we can do is hope the North Korean government will show leniency," Ling's sister, TV journalist Lisa Ling,..."Tensions are so heated, and the girls are essentially in the midst of this nuclear standoff," she said on CNN's "Larry King Live."

...State-run media have not defined the exact charges against them, but South Korean legal experts said conviction for "hostility" or espionage could mean five to 10 years in a labor camp. Choi said a ruling by the top court would be final."

For the U.S. to return to a Main Street mandated morality it would need a Main Street.

Top down legislated morality from the Fed has never worked very well. The sleaze, graft and in-your-face corruption of FIRE would seem to mitigate against a return to a Prohibition of Anything Era.

I just returned from Cuba - was there for a week with my girlfriend. The best holiday Ive ever had yet in my life. The beach was a turquoise blue, sand powdery white - you can lie in the sun all day and not get bored. The water is just stunning.

I went to an all inclusive resort and you could basically eat and drink to your heart's content. It was a five star resort with so much included in the pre paid bill that one thought one was ripping the resort off. I don't think I've ever eaten so much sea food in my life or had so much champagne to drink.

Nowhere else in the Caribbean would you get so much for your money. A 7 day holiday for two on the resort all inclusive cost us £1000 (flights were an additional £1000). Unbelievable value for money.

Without Castro, Cuba could become one of the richest nations in Latin America. Tourism alone would explode if it was opened up to Americans and if foreigners were allowed to buy property. It was, in fact, pre-Castro, the richest country in Latin America with a per capita income higher than Italy. And Havana still has remnants from the past - architecturally its a strange place because you have stunningly beautiful buildings from the pre-Communist past right next to some of the ugliest buildings I've ever seen (basically 60s Soviet architecture).

I highly recommend Cuba for a holiday - if you don't have a US passport and are not hit by the embargo, its a place worth visiting.

It would be interesting to see the reactions of all the Cubans who left their land behind, if some of it ever comes up for sale.

I'd get the biggest kick out of seeing the old American cars everywhere.

And, averages are ill-suited to reality. You actually think that Cubans should go backwards to Batista?
