  • Anyone who calls for suspension of the US Constitution is a moron

Ive seen some recent threads where states call for "nullification of the Constitution", I think it was New Hampshire or something that had verbage in the legislation.

What part of history do people so forget? How is this issue so complicated? This situation can *EASILY* be handled within the framework of the US constitution. We have handled this situation a few times in our history. Remember that the Federal Reserve is not the first central bank to be abolished in US history. Today is no different than any in our past.

Anyone calling for a nullifcation/suspension of the US Constitution is a phony and has sinister interest(s) in the enactment of such. They are essentially a false prophet.

I believe states would be calling for the suspension of state constitutions so that they are not bound by the requirement to balance their budgets.

    Just a guess...

All constitutional officers, all military officers and service men and women, most elected officials, etc have taken an oath to defend the US Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic. The US Constitution will not be suspended. There are many millions of us who will defend the Constitution no matter what the price in life or personal liberty.

These are politicians reading 8% unemployment reports and projectoins of it doubling over the next 18 months. TRANSLATION: they want to keep their jobs.

Inflammatory rhetoric will increase because when TSHTF these politicians will be able to whip out their ludicrous proposals come election time in 2010. It amounts to no more than Fuld's tongue-lashing by Congress: completely toothless rhetoric.

As for this process being "easily" handled, you may be right, but the considerable power of the vested interests must first be wiped out. That is no easy task. Methinks you're underestimating the power of the FIRE economy pirates.

Actually, it was just the opposite. The State legislature of NH has a bill pending re-affirming the state's rights promised by the 10th amendment to the Constitution, i.e. any responsibility not specifically given to the federal government belongs to the states.

This bill, in effect, is a push back by the state against the growth of the federal government.

or just google, New Hampshire House Concurrent Resolution 6

A few other states have already passed similar resolutions. These are early indicators of the impending failure of a large and interventionist federal government. Note, I do not predict the end of the federal government only the end of large federal government.

That any Act by the Congress of the United States, Executive Order of the President of the United States of America or Judicial Order by the Judicatories of the United States of America which assumes a power not delegated to the government of United States of America by the Constitution for the United States of America and which serves to diminish the liberty of the any of the several States or their citizens shall constitute a nullification of the Constitution for the United States of America by the government of the United States of America. Acts which would cause such a nullification include, but are not limited to:
This is the line that I am talking about. While it may seem a good thing on the first reading, lawmakers are notorious about slipping in wordage that can be horribly construed.

This is absolutely terrifying, but I believe that reallife is right: There are many many people, myself included, who will stand up and do what it takes to preserve the Constitution of the United States of America. Anyone who will not defend it is either blinded by ignorance or has sinister intentions.

Since my childhood in the '50s and '60s the issue of States' Rights has been simmering on the stoves of the right wing. During Republican administrations it always goes into the background and during Democratic administrations it is a code word and becomes a rallying cry for the minority Republicans to keep their flock engaged and together. The last big States' Rights issue I remember was during the Civil Rights era in which some states wanted to exempt themselves.

              From a secession website
The 10th Amendment states: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." This amendment was the basis of the doctrine of states' rights that became the ante-bellum rallying cry of the Southern states, which sought to restrict the ever-growing powers of the federal government. The principle of states' rights and state sovereignty eventually led the Southern states to secede from the central government that they believed had failed to honor the covenant that had originally bound the states together.
And, of course Wikipedia has a good discussion of states' rights

This is not the only constitutional diddling people are attempting. Over the last many years state movements have passed calls for a Consitutional Convention for a variety of reasons. Nearly the required 2/3 of the states have passed such measures, an attempt last fall in Ohio failed passage.

The right wing is nothing if not persistent, and ultimately may find an issue and a distracted electorate in a few states and call a constitutional convention which, when called, can theoretically rewrite the whole document.

I believe this to be the seeds of civil war...imagine how many states will be pissed at Cali and Kansas for having to bail out their state budgets with tax dollars from other states I'm not certain it would come to bloodshed but I guarantee that states will be considering protectionist ideas (much like countries are doing now). Perhaps Obama WILL be the Lincoln for this generation...both the good and the bad.
