Well, this is not so much a rumor but a wild speculation I thought of.
How about mafia placing big bets on rising oil and hiring an islamic radical to fire a rocket at a tanker or Nigerian nationalist to sabotage a pipeline.
I can't help but think about it after seeing the news in the last week.
No, I'm not saying that this is responsible for the general rise in energy prices as we all know that there is a peak oil production and increased demand.
I'm saying that some people can rig and play short term spikes easily.
