    The draw is that the Prius ( and I assume other hybrids) can start up the engine at night and charge the battery and then shut down. The battery is then used to run the heater or air conditioner all night. This uses a few dollar of gasoline and makes it practical for the destitute to live in a city where they can no longer afford rent.
