Poor Mega, this thread has gotten completely off his track.

Aw, man! I envy you. Buffy is amazing. I think your son will be the perfect age for it. Although he may not appreciate all of the nuances of it. You are in for a treat! Once you get to season 4, consider watching Angel and Buffy at the same time since they kind of intersect.

Buffy (the series) takes a while to find its legs. The first 1-1/2 seasons are all over the map in regards to quality. Some good episodes, some pretty poor. But even the poor episodes help set up the character groundwork for everything that comes later. It isn't until midway through the second season that it gets really good. Epically good.

So if you think it's not for you, just give it time.

          Re: This is it?

I loved it from the first episode; however, I would agree that it hits a certain stride and maturity somewhere in the second season that really transforms it into a glorious show.

14 episodes left. Makes me so sad. I'll watch Angel next. Then I'll probably watch a few other series before watching Buffy and Angel again (this time in proper sequence).

As far as villains go, I'm really liking the 7th season so far, but I still think the villain of the third season is the best of all. Just such a different villain from what you commonly see. The kind of villain you wish had stuck around for much longer. 4th season villain sucked, but it was such a strong season anyway that it didn't matter.

4th season's Big Bad was pretty lame, but for sheer fun it's my favorite season.

If you haven't seen Firefly, it's a must.

              Re: This is it?

I have seen it and quite enjoyed it; however, I kind of also hate it. It took Joss away from Buffy.

I am not sure I could say I have a favorite season. I love them all in their own ways.

Five episodes left. The seventh season has been very strong. Not sure what the complaints are all about.

When you see "Empty Places" you'll know. Personally I found the Potenitials annoying. I don't like how the focus on them pushed the core scoobies to the background for so much of the season.

"Empty Places" is considered by many to be one of the worst eps of the series. But it's followed by "Touched" which is considered one of the best.

I am ambivalent about the Potentials. Yeah, I dislike how they have pushed aside the Scoobies and I really friggin' dislike how they are treating MAH FRIGGIN' BUFFY; however, I think it was still for the best. I don't think they could have done another season with just the Scoobies.

Just finished Empty Places, by the way. Not my favorite episode by a long shot, but I think it had to be done.

I'll be watching the final three episodes tomorrow. I dread it. Onto "Angel" after that!

Why, yes I indeedily do! Not quite the heroic captain this time.

                          No, he sure isn't!

You're going to love the ending! I also think you'll enjoy the series even more when you watch it a second time. It's like an Easter egg hunt. You'll pick up on so many things that didn't seem significant the first time, but now you'll see them in an entirely new light.

Example: In the beginning of "School Hard" Spike has a little cut on his cheek. Later, Buffy is painting a banner and has a streak of red paint on her cheek. In a Jungian sense Buffy is Spike's anima. They are counterparts of each other because they are both subversives to their respective traditions.

Watch Spike's face the first time he sees her dancing at the Bronze. That's the moment he becomes infatuated with her. When they later fight in the school, their entire conversation has the feel of a dance with a sexual subtext that forshadows their future relationship. He says about killing her, "As a favor to you I'll make it quick. It won't hurt a bit."

Buffy responds, "No Spike. It's going to hurt a lot."

In "Fool for Love" in Season 5, Buffy says to him, "You think we're dancing?"

Spike responds, "That's all we've ever done."

Definitely looking forward to it, shiny! Although I don't think I can come anywhere close to being as observant as you are.
