First, why do you use the link to Fox News? Don’t you know they use mind control? If you see “Fox News” on the screen, don’t believe your eyes!

Second, don’t you understand, people carrying around excessive amounts of cash can use it to do cash transactions! How are we going to assure, there is proper supervision and regulation involved?

Third, you know, we need serious capital controls to prevent collapse of the economy, we cannot allow people moving excessive amounts of cash between banks, much less between cities. Where is he keeping this money? Maybe, he kept it under his mattress for years, thus weakening the banking system. What happens if everybody takes his cash out of his bank? Some banks will lose their capital base and some will have excessive reserves. This has systemic implications. Besides, we will have to run and maintain the real printing presses wasting huge amounts of precious paper and energy.

He could even buy a few gold coins with this cash and carry them around! Or hoard them expecting to profit from the financial crisis. And if he did profit by selling his coins for cash, how do you know, he reported this transaction in his tax return?

We now live in the new era, when everything should be done for the common good. We condemn the Patriot Act and invasion of privacy committed by the GW administration, but we cannot afford free-for-all uncontrolled manipulation of the precious resources.

The Fox News is somehow implying, regulation and supervision is not needed, this fella is good and the cops are bad. Wrong! We need more and better supervision of any transaction. Look where this unregulated stuff got us!

Medved - you almost had me completely fooled here. I honestly was struggling to tell if you are being sarcastic or serious for a second.

I took £4000 out of the bank in cash a couple of years ago.
They asked what it was for -- the teller said he had to ask and suggested I say christmas presents. I was incredulous.
Next time they ask I'm going to say for gambling, boozing and whoring.

You may think it is funny or stupid, but I can guarantee you, these SOBs that detained the guy were thinking along these lines. Especially, if they are so-called "intellectuals" that believe in the "good government". Trust me, there is a very short distance between what we heard in this video and introduction of internal passports and exit visas. Just capital/currency controls may not help this time around. The black market inside the country may grow so fast, they will introduce *internal* control to track "big" transactions. Don't forget, we already have the law that says your private property can be confiscated for any reason. It is just the matter of time and interpretation.

Unfu#$%cking believable. The thought of a customer service person, whether it's a bank junior VP or a government appointed security staff member (last time i checked, we pay their freaking salary to "serve" public security, rather than engage in specious exercises of petty misuse of authority?) summarily asking me what I'm carrying my own cash around for makes my blood pressure shoot up. Big, big blood pressure spike - just getting asked that question. I start getting this wild urge to kick some uniformed monkey in the nuts, but of course that would give them precisely what they want - an excuse to arrest me.

You will have come full circle Medved. Escaped this kind of donkey-shyte at home in Russia, only to rediscover it here in the US. Welcome to the "home of the brave" - as we shall all have to learn this skill all over again.

Tell them you're going to light it on fire, you might as well.
