Re: US Navy......shows the World what American's are all about!
Mike, I hope you don't mind, but this post has nothing to do with the economy or finance. It's a stupid joke that can make only kids under 10 years old to laugh. And it will only lower the quality of this website if you keep searching for garbage like this around and post it as some kind o trophy. As a general observation, your posts are always a short link and a short comment that is supposed to be smart, but they are not and they have very little value in most of the cases. You should really review a quality of your postings by comparing them with what others post. They are way above you. Again, please to not take the front page with silly comments or links, if you really care about the quality of this website. And, please, pay a bit more attention to your grammar and english in general.

Gablmk - I don't know, I found it good for a Saturday morning grin. Jonathan Swift employed humor to debunk every conceit of his age. But you think displays of humor in the pursuit of canards in our own era is a frivolity we cannot afford? I find your post officious-sounding and pedantic. But it's very reassuring here to know we have a vigilant "relevancy policeman" such as yourself around to keep us all sombrely on the straight and narrow. Your world must be very orderly over there Gablmk! I don't know how you elected yourself, but your humorlessness and drab officiousness certainly clarify that you are the most qualified candidate. Go to it!

It was only ment to show(nicely) that the World is not too fond of America right now. Like us, you are going to have to get used to the idea that the Sun has set (or in your case setting) on the Empire!
I hope that in the years to come, once more respect rather than anger & hate will be shown the US.

1. To expand his analysis a little more
2. Use the formatting capabilities of the bulletin system a little more. I usually put news links like this: -source, date- -Bolded text of headline- -quote- relevant snippets, things I find especially enlightened bolded out -end quote- and then a small commentary.
Mega's typical post is:
-complete uninformative URL to british newspaper that has an interesting story- Oh my god we're doomed! (or) Bastards!

Miker is a special member, and once again I hope he'll forgive me here but this was already mentioned on these pages. He's an engineer, so no-one can question his intelligence, but he's also acknowledged having some difficulty with lengthier writing. Despite this, I find his intelligence acute, and his wit dry, and I greatly appreciate both, as do others.
The issue is that he is not comfortable writing longer clarifications as other posters may take for granted. Therefore I think when Mike posts a link to an article without much comment, you cannot hold him to the same "explain it for us or else it's SPAM" standard that you may expect of others. I also second this right on behalf of anyone on these pages who is not comfortable writing longer explanations. The variety of opinion is the most precious thing here. I'm fully aware this might be read as having a slightly patronising overtone - but the point is in fact precisely the opposite.
Mike supplies a wonderfully caustic and cynical Midlands English acerbic point of view to these pages, and there is no-one here to replace that quality. Just like Krakknisse in Norway (OK, I'm guessing that is where he is, as he's let slip one or two broad hints), or Ocelotl in Mexico, or Touchring in Singapore, and many others from around the world. The Americans here are "a dime a dozen", we are all over these pages like ants around sugar.
It is the posters from all the other countries who provide this place with an international flavor that makes it really fun. Given all this, and the fact Mega has difficulty writing longer expositions which he's freely acknowleged, I vote that Mega be cut a lot of slack, not just a bit. He's plastering non-sequiturs all over Janszen's reserved pages, or anarchically pasting stuff all over the news pages. OK, mostly the rest of us don't, but to insist on an "everybody get in line" mentality here takes some of the sparkle out of these communal forum pages.
I think it's fun, and I'm against all the self appointed "P'licemen".
Here's the deeper point - the extent to which Mega may be slightly anarchic around here, for me is cause for celebration - and in the times we are all heading into, a trace of anarchy is possibly one of the most precious attrbutes of our freer past that we can hope to conserve. A bit of anarchy is a wonderful thing, to my view. Miker is the last best hope for "Anarchy in the UK", (a "velvet revolution" against Queen Elizabeth and the British Bilderbergers :rolleyes: ). although I understand that his day job is as a straight laced engineer.
Look, here's Sapiens "doing his own thing" - does anyone notice any scrap of an "explanation provided for the post" here? :

1.) America's support for Isreal, or any under-dog nation, rightly and sometimes even wrongly;
2.) America's leadership in WWII;
3.) the old "Can-do" or "Si, se puede" spirit of America;
4.) the "nation of immigrants" spirit in America, more so now than ever, especially in California;
5.) the U.S. dollar, especially the old silver dollar;
6.) the spirit of letting people do what in the hell they want to do and getting the government and the regulators off of their backs;
7.) the wide-open spaces.
Here is what I hate about America now:
1.) English-only, especially in the U.S. public schools;
2.) the "winner-take-all" spirit, aka the "Greed is good," spirit;
3.) corporatism and the Republicans;
4.) the arrogance of power, especially during the Vietnam War;
5.) the not too subtle racism woven into the country, especially in the South;
6.) the unwillingness of the conservatives to allow anything whatsoever to change;
7.) the archaic and nationalistic U.S. public school curriculum, more so now than ever before;
8.) the flag-waving, the nationalism, and the outright xenophobia in the U.S;
9.) the lack of leadership provided to the world by the U.S. in recent years;
10.) the system of permanent gridlock in Washington, i.e, govn't by lobbiests and brown-bags of money;
11.) gun-toting and the gun culture, especially out of place in cities to-day.Last edited by Starving Steve; June 07, 2008, 03:28 PM.

Luke, you are a smart dude as least from my vantage point, but you have been dumber than a rock to keep arguing with a post in my opinion.

Re: US Navy......shows the World what American's are all about!
Sorry, but I just don't see how a completely fake video - specifically meant to show the US Navy as arrogant and stupid - shows a damn thing.
I too can make a fake video pointing out something is stupid, but so what?
This used to be called propaganda, now it is known as 'free speech'.
Now if the video were called the humor piece it is clearly intended to be, that would be different.

Re: US Navy......shows the World what American's are all about!
I spent 6 years of my life as part of that shoddy, wasteful organization we call the U.S. Navy. I have to say I enjoyed the video greatly and furthermore wouldn't be the least bit surprised to discover that this scenario actually occured.
Thanks Mike
