Re: iTulipers! What do you do?

Originally a resident of the Midwest, Now the Great Northwest, and if CA wasn't such a screwed up state I would want to live in San Diego.

BA in Economics out of a Big Ten School where they pumped Keynesian philosophy. Had to forget a lot of that drivel over the years to actually understand the world, though I think my 'first-born' linear way of looking at things told me that the premise was wrong.

One-time ski bum, two time traveller to Burning Man and a lover of hard-bop/bebop jazz and especially brasilian samba, bossa, jazz, and occasional hip-hop (Marcelo D2). Enjoy travelling, and have not been to enough places yet. Once won a trip for two to the North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Haag, Netherlands. The Dutch are some of the nicest people onthe planet and most speak better english than you will find in the inner cities of the US of A.

Worked for the sometime chanelled twin of the angry Mike Ditka for over half a dozen years before emotionally frying out and then starting my own temp-help business, which i grew from zero to at one time a high of over $10m in revenues from one location. 'Sold out' in 2007 because I could see Obamacare coming before there was an Obama on the scene to care. Big fan of empowering people and letting them grow while not berating them for mistakes.

Armchair economist glued to the gyrations of the world in general, and an avid reader of many things markets and economics related. Always trying to 'figure it out', though not always with as much success as I would like in the end. Makes me more appreciative of EJ.

INTJ personality on the Meyers Briggs profile test, who has no problem or fears of speaking to or being in large groups, or alone by myself. Not much of a sports fan but I announce swim meets and have done some small charity auctioneering with no training. Probably would be deadly if I really had that training.

Enjoy cooking occasionally, and am 'the woman of the house' at present because, well frankly, I just don;t want to "go to work" anymore. aka as 'dad', the 'laundry bitch', the 'taxi driver', and when my teenage kids bring home friends late the 'late-nite short order cook'.

Play a little drums, even less bass, wish I was a saxophone god in my dreams. Enjoy lifting weights again after being off for over half a decade, mainly for dual hip replacements (genetic issue). My doc is not hapy I am squatting again, but wtf...

Married to the lovely missus d&g, who like me one day wishes to live abroad. If given the choice I would move to Barcelona in a heartbeat and probably never come back. If Portugal left the EU, I would want to live in Lisbon or a nice town along the coast.

I love learning brasilian portuguese, and speak enough spanish to get by in most situations. Understand far more of both.

Current occupation is as a 'gentleman farmer' in Uruguay. Two people from this forum have been there to see at least one of my farms, and one has bought a farm as well. Not at liberty to divulge names. Always happy to share what I know with others about the country.

    Love my family dearly.

Meanwhile, there are some arrangements I did for my band back in 2009 where as an exercise I tried to emulate the original closely, and there are mp3 files you can hear now. All the instruments and vocals were done by me in my studio.

      Finster does Blue Oyster Cult
      Finster does Supertramp
Finster does Earth Wind & Fire
      Finster does Josh Turner
Pretty nice work, Finster, I'd say you nailed them as exact emulations.
You have a very nice voice, and the recordings are very clean.

I'm a big fan of BOC......did you get any real cowbell in there?

My wife bought me a 2nd hand Fender Tele in Sunburst like Andy Summers(except less beat up) as an aspirational bit of motivation. Once I can make the time and when my body slows down a bit I'm keen to learn a few Police songs, some Flock of Seagulls, The Cure, and The Cult....just to see if I can do it.
Ha! Our drummer takes great delight in torturing me with cowbell. Good luck with the guitar ... it's a little like nuclear fusion, it's mostly downhill but you have to get over a hump first.

After dropping music as a full-time thing I lost the ability to play Jaco Pastorius tunes, switched to 6 string, gig out a couple times a month locally as a 2-piece with the wife, she sings beautifully, light rock, R&B, unusual covers. Also play bass for a 1970s rock band playing out 4 or 5 times a year, sit in with friends at clubs once in a while.
          Not yet 54 years old.
It sounds like we are living in parallel universes, TBO. I live in a neighboring state (call me thriftyandboringininpennsylvania), have a degree in engineering, and do music. Went on the road with a band for two years before going to college. Just turned 54 ...

The similarities are a little spooky.

Is summarized in my tag line.

I've been working on power equipment design for media lightning fixtures,as test engineer for a telecommunications support maquila, as a regional support engineer for an Israelí Satellite Telecommunications company and nowadays as a field service engineer for a cash management servicing company.

Like flight simulation, astronomy, programming, reading, and every now and then study on my own bits about economy.

Rumor: iTulip Dark Lord (see the blog post if you really want to know the background)

Reality: IT programmer/consultant/whatever-needs-doing. Currently at my third start-up.

Traveled around the world for pleasure and business. Movie buff and liquid snob (coffee, beer, wine and scotch -- I've heard other people are into this weird substance called water). Art collector from our travels. Spends weekends at my family's lakehouse in Central Virginia which I've slowly transformed into our escape pad should it be needed.

Married to Mrs 666 who is Managing Director of a Micro-Finance non-profit and who is, naturally, appalled at my choice of login name.
