Fed Funds Data Discrepancy

I was looking through some old Itulip posts and I came across this one

I have been doing some analysis with the Fed Funds Data from the st. louis fred website, on EJ's post there is a spike to 6% but, none of the data on the st. louis fred website shows this 6% spike. Is this data different? what series is used for ej's post? Could this be of material significance? Am I doing something wrong? Any help appreciated greatly.

That graph was created Sept. 16, 2008 the same way we make all of the graphs of Fed data, by downloading the FRED data from the St. Louis Fed site. Here's the raw data from the excel file for 2008:

Once you adjust for minor formatting differences, the data is identical between Jan 1 and Sep 12, 2008.

Then there is a single anomalous spike of "6" in the first data set for the very last day (Sep 15) downloaded then. That value becomes "2.64" for that day (Sep 15) in the new data set and the data continues uneventfully from there. It seems to me that "6" spike is just some hiccup or noise or error in the data that has been fixed now.

I cannot imagine that there is any practical way for us, who are outside the Fed (and a couple years removed) to explain that hiccup now.

The "6" spike should be ignored, as invalid and without significance.
