  • Sold My Gold And Silver

    iTulip is wrong! J/k.

I had to sell my precious metal holdings to afford a scooter. Yes, my holdings were pitifully small, but they were holdings nonetheless! I hope to reinvest later on, though.

Sounds like it was necessary. Save what you can and get back in the game asap.

I do not see scooters getting any cheaper in the future. It is a good investment.

Are scooters becoming more popular where you live? When I was in Taiwan (years ago) EVERYBODY drove a scooter. They get very good gas mileage and are super-easy to drive. I would not be surprised to see a lot more of them on the road as gas gets more expensive and people have less disposable income.

I think they are, aaron. Prior to the last couple years, I had never seen a scooter around here. Now I see them weekly, which may not be much, but it is still much more often than before. And like you said, I think they will become more popular as the economy dictates the use of more economical vehicles. If I chose to drive my car instead, the combination of insurance, maintenance, and gas would cost as much as the scooter does in just a few years.

They've become very popular in Winnipeg. Indeed, when some former colleagues came here to do a job, one of them commented that compared to southern Ontario there are a lot of scooters here. This is a recent phenomenon; when I lived here in 2003 they were pretty rare, but when I moved back in 2008 they were everywhere. Ironically, they make a lot less sense here than there, since for half the year it is dangerous as well as extremely unpleasant to ride one.

Looks like I chose the perfect time to sell. Got 1,252 for the krugerrand and 770 for the 40 oz of silver buffalos.

Yes, it has perks. MM has his own parking space at the Science Museum (where attempts to turn lead into gold are closely followed by you know who)

Don't let this success go to your head. Send me a message when you do buy again please. Lol

What kind of scooter did you buy?

I recently purchased a new Goped ESR 750EX, lead acid for my new venture.

Works fairly well, but I'm going to have to trade up to a 32 AH Lithium ion version.

The 8 mile range of the SLA just isn't enough; I hope the 28 mile range of the 32 AH will be enough to put in a full day's work.

The electric models are very nice though because they are just barely portable enough (even the 55 lb SLA) to carry onto buses and trains - something the gas models aren't allowed to do.

I have not yet bought it, but when I receive the check from APMEX for the precious metals, I am buying a Kymco Super 8 150 scooter.

That Goped costs $1,000 on Amazon!! O.O Nice, though! You never see those around.

Where do you live that you can use a fancy contraption like that, c1ue?

Re: Sold My Gold And Silver

I be in the liberal hell-hole capital of the West Coast.

But the Goped is for use in the 6 major cities I am targeting, starting with my own.

The 32 AH is $3K - BTW. Damned expensive.

I only am willing to pay because gasoline powered models aren't bus, train, nor plane portable and the price tradeoff is paying thousands of dollars per city to hire someone else to do the work.

The Kymco doesn't look to be all that cheap either. But definitely better in a non-urban environment - though IMO still a deathtrap if you're sharing the road with cars.

I stick exclusively to the sidewalks with the Goped. Between it being electrical/fairly quiet (most of the noise is due to the chain drive going over the plastic tensioner) and my keeping to the 12 mph economy mode with frequent stops, I haven't been hassled yet by either pedestrians or law enforcement.
