Well ... my PC's are already cluttered with various browsers. So given your report, I tried various browsers out. They all worked except that if I was not yet logged into my iTulip account, the thumbnails did not show the graphic image, rather just some "click here" text. If I clicked there, I saw the full size image properly (as best as I recall; I'm too lazy to logout of iTulip on each of those browsers, clear their caches and retry to verify this recollection.)

    Here's what I tried.

    Operating SystemBrowserBrowser Version
    Linux Ubuntu 10.04Firefox3.6.3
    Linux Ubuntu 10.04Opera10.10
    Linux Ubuntu 10.04Konqueor4.4.2
    Linux Ubuntu 10.04Google Chrome5.0.375.29
    Windows XP SP3Internet Explorer6.0.2900.5512
    Windows XP SP3Google Chrome4.1.249.1064
    Windows XP SP3Firefox3.6.3

So if it's an IE version problem, then your IE is too new, not too old ;). I have IE6; you have IE8.

I have not heard of any other failures resembling the ones you describe, so I have to suppose that you've got something "special" going on there.

ALL of those [Windows IE8] PCs are not displaying attached images properly.
Were you just seeing the problem I just noted above, not seeing thumbnails when not logged into iTulip, or were you seeing other problems with images as well?

      TPC - thanks again.

No - I logged into iTulip for all my tests. Therefore the issues remains with IE8 and all attached images. If an image is linked through IMG/URL I think it shows up fine. If it's a thumbnail or inline image - no go - they all appear as the "green box & red X" as I posted before.

I cringe at the "special" comment though. If one can eliminate the O/S, the specific machine, the Internetworking components - what's left? IE8 & iTulip's implementation of vBulletin in my mind.

I was able to quickly install Safari on my main machine (Win7, i7, x64) and it works just fine. I am having no other issues with IE8 and other websites, forums, or S/W of any kind. That's why I have a hard time believing that my situation is "special" ... but I remain open to something I may have missed. 4 different PCs all running a different O/S would be a 'huge' coincidence in my mind.

I have company visiting for a few days - so I won't get too much time online. But when I can, I will run some more tests. If nobody else with IE8 is having trouble then maybe I have 4 special PCs working a la SkyNet trying to lead me blindly into economic Armageddon.

Thanks for your efforts. When I can find time - I'll posted more detailed screenshots of the issue.

TPC - FYI - I found several posts online where people are having trouble seeing/posting images with IE8 & vBulletin (here's just 2) ...

        http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...hose-using-IE8

        http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...isplay-in-IE-8

... at least I feel better knowing that I'm not completely losing it, or have "special" needs computers ;-)

Of course - a solution would be nice too. Apparently, not all IE8 users are having this problem - just some. Lucky me.

Christ on a crutch. You're right. I upgraded Internet Explorer on my Windows box from IE6 to IE8. I retract my something "special" accusation.

Now I see the same problems you report. IE8 and the vBulletin version 4.0.3 software used on iTulip.com don't play nice. Thumbnails for attached images are just "Click image for larger version" text (with some more text giving useless details of the image), and if you click there, you get to watch a pop-up with a Spinning Circle of Doom forever.

I noticed another problem as well. Go to the iTulip.com home page and look for the pull down menus at the very top:
          CompanyForumiTulip's RecordFriendsResources
This menu does not show on my IE8 browser. It's just a green bar. One cannot get from the iTulip.com front page to the Forum.

I guess it's time I complained to the esteemed management.

LOL (with minor vindication). I checked your 'pull down menu' item. Actually, all my links point straight to '/forums' because I never found any value in the home page. However, my IE8 displays the menu fine, and I can click on the pull-down items. However, the "green" used on the Home page is very different/brighter than the one on the 'forum' page.

Since nobody else "chimed-in" having similar issues, I thought I was losing it. I've always said that "I.T. guys like a good puzzle" - so I appreciate you sticking with the problem.

Here's 2 screenshots. IE8 has the "Switch Editor Mode" button and all my Safari browsers (MAC or PC) do not. Feature?

I started a blog post on this matter at Internet Explorer 8 and iTulip appended images no workie. Perhaps that will provide a more publicly visible medium for further discussion.

I will now see if I can direct the attention of the Esteemed iTulip Management to this matter.

Well, I didn't have a Safari browser ... until now. I just downloaded it onto my Windows box. I now have IE8, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Konqueror and Google Chrome.

It turns out that there are three icons in the upper right corner of the response area, above the smilies, to the right of the editing icons. There are, in order:
                1. Check Spelling
                2. Increase/Decrease Size
                3. Switch Editor Mode

On IE8, which has all three visible, these three icons look like the following:
Various browsers show various subsets of these, as noted in the following table.

Caveat: the above table was thrown together quickly. It could have errors; your browser mileage might vary; ...

That looks about right. It's probably worth noting that under "General Settings" and "Miscellaneous Options" there is a "Message Editor Interface" option you can set.

                  I love the disclaimer ...
When posting messages to the forums or other members, there are three interface types available to you. The simplest of these is a simple text box, while the last is a fully-fledged WYSIWYG editor, which allows you to format your text as you want it and see the results immediately.

Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type.

Here's a screenshot of the area:

We're looking into the IE8 image issue. Hope to resolve it soon when possible.

You need to check "Compatibility View" from "Tools" in IE8 browser. And that should take care of it....

FRED - I tried "Compatibility View" a long time ago - and it does NOT work for me.

TPC - can you check the same please?

The IE8 Menu -> Tools -> Compatibility View does allow me to see the Green Menu Bar items along the top of the iTulip.com home web page:
                        CompanyForumiTulip's RecordFriendsResources

I have just glanced at the various images posted on this thread while posting this reply, but I see some images still not right, so I am almost certain that this Compatibility Mode does not help the image display problem.

Yes, agree with your "certainty". The IE8 Compatibility Mode for viewing the top nav. bar menu at iTullip homepage is a separate issue from viewing image in VB4 forum when using IE8 - no reported problem viewing image when using other Internet browsers - that's MS for you :-)
As FRED noted yesterday (quote): "We're looking into the IE8 image issue. Hope to resolve it soon when possible".

Thank you ALL for your patience.

IE8 problem of viewing website image is a well known issue, nothing new. And MS has not yet resolved the problem. I'm a Window user & have been using MS IE for years & years, when there was no other option, but IE8 has tooo many problems & I'm finally fed up with it & switch it to Google Chrome - which, in my opinion, is a much user friendly and stable browser and it's FREE. I can now view the images at iTulip, PROBLEM SOLVED!
