  • A solution? The NH Free State Project - not pretty but something to build on

I have seen a few comments about the FSP here before and have posted some on the FSP itself. I thought it might deserve its own thread. Now I am sure there are plenty of folks opposed to a free-market/liberty message out there - for those folks they have their place to go, namely anywhere else.

The FSP is for folks who believe the maximum role of government is to protect people's rights. Further the FSP espouses goverment should neither provide for people nor punish them for activities that interfere with no one else. Beyond that there is A LOT of disagreement among liberty minded folks. The idea is to get folks who largely agree with the liberty principles to move to NH and influence the institutions there. I think it's a really good idea.

French Riviera it is not. Could they import more razors? Yes. Is the movement still small? Very. But I think its one of the best ideas I have seen out there and the people that are moving to NH are very activist oriented. Not that this equates to some kind of Ghandi-like-disobedience, but I think it's a great list of things going on in NH that stick it to the system. Many of these things are perfectly legal - they are exercising so called rights - that authorities will try and convince you otherwise of. Activities I have heard about include:
    • opening a homeless shelter without the necessary permits
    • public marijuana smoking at 420pm daily in town common
    • bringing cameras into courtroom and recording interactions with police
    • exercising right to bear arms in public buildings or public places
    • getting liberty candidates into local political office
    • refusing to stand for judges when they are introduced to the court
    • outings to educate juries on their rights of nullification
