    Re: An observation

I find it very, very hard to accept that overpopulation is a problem in and of itself. All other species have a very natural limit to their population, but humans, in my estimate, are merely adapting to their ever-expanding "natural limit" and will continue to do so for centuries. The thing is that our natural limit is not natural. Deer do not cultivate grass.
Indeed, overpopulation is not the problem, overconsumption is. We can support our current and forseeable future population given that we limit our consumption to reasonable values so that Earth's capacity is not exceeded. However, limiting consumption is hard and not popular.

      Re: An observation

Overpopulation will never be a very serious problem, we will solve the serious problem of overpopulation, like we solve all other serious problems(by warfare), before it become a very serious problem. Sorry, I never bet against the parts of human nature named greed, anger, and envy. They will always be around and they will always cause problems.
We are all little cockroaches running around guessing when the FED will turn OFF the Lights.

That chart says it all. But some people keep wanting to ignore it and look at the world only in terms of their own life span. I always found our economy based on the need for endless growth a bit amusing too. We were told they could "manage it". I suspect the same will happen in their attempts to manage population growth.

Or do you see the future like something out of "The Fifth Element", with people living in pods, stacked up like sardines? I guess we'd better get busy funding that space travel then.
