If the Westminster system of government requires both an opposition and a government to pass sound laws then it is in its last days. There won't be a Labor politician to be found.

The year 1776 is in reference to the American Revolution which was significantly related to taxation issues. The American colonies that revolted were originally British possessions, and it was the British that were imposing the taxes for the most part.
