Re: How I learned to love the economic crisis

They're just experiencing some processing delays while preparing the next batch.

Sheila can't afford to let the "Deposit Insurance Fund" drop too far below zero without "refilling" it, or else she might lose out in her ongoing battle with Geithner. Once that problem is solved through the next round of bank assessments in late October, the floodgates will probably open up again.

        Skoal! Skoal!
And then came Number 98. From the FDIC website:

Legacy Bank, Wiley, Colorado, Assumes All of the Deposits of Southern Colorado National Bank, Pueblo, Colorado

        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
        October 2, 2009

Southern Colorado National Bank, Pueblo, Colorado, was closed today by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver. To protect the depositors, the FDIC entered into a purchase and assumption agreement with Legacy Bank, Wiley, Colorado, to assume all of the deposits of Southern Colorado National Bank...

...The FDIC estimates that the cost to the Deposit Insurance Fund (DIF) will be $6.6 million. Legacy Bank's acquisition of all the deposits was the "least costly" resolution for the FDIC's DIF compared to alternatives. Southern Colorado National Bank is the 98th FDIC-insured institution to fail in the nation this year, and the third in Colorado...

Drat those FDIC! 5 pm PST on a Friday apparently isn't the deadline for adding failed banks to the list...

I guess I'll have to 'roll over' the extra into next Friday...

It appeared the drinking game was dead after successive weeks of no banks closed and 1 bank closed.

But with the addition of 7 banks failed on 10/23/09, it seems that the dearth was primarily due to closing the big bank: Georgian.
