Did you listen to the lyrics in Silent Running? You'll love them.

Funny thing about your comment is that both of the songs that Sapiens and I posted were recorded in the 80s. This isn't new music by any stretch, TPC.

I tried to, but my hearing is not too good anymore. I could not understand most of the lyrics.

My record collection mostly ends in the late 1960's or early 1970's. Most anything since then sounds like noise to my ears.

May you too live long and prosper and get to have fun annoying the young ones with your anti-diluvian tastes in music .

Oh it's already begun, my little sisters think I'm a little hip, but not much.

Useless trivia: Silent Running was composed for the soundtrack of a 1986 movie called Choke Canyon. I've never seen the film, but the lyrics and music video seem to only have a tenuous connection to the movie.

Dr. David Lowell's (Collins) [alternative energy] research is carried out in the canyon country of southern Utah and must be conducted at the same time Halley's Comet is passing over the earth. A corporation trying to find a remote place to illegally dump nuclear waste, throws him off his land and destroys his laboratory. He spends the rest of the film committing ecotage against the company and trying to recover his land.

                  Music History quiz:

Can anyone name two big hits the lead singer on "Silent Running" had with other groups?

Other groups? You mean other than Genesis?

Sapiens, you're freaking me out. I can handle reading data and opinions and watching the horror of charts but that song by Blue Oyster Cult is terrifying me at the soul level... that place where we look at all that once was and all the dreams and all the potential and all that humanity has collectively been passionate for to become replaced by fear and survival and scampering in the ruins... One of the best songs ever done of course but jeez... have we reached this point? If you play "Dust in the Wind" I don't know what I'll do...

No, Paul Carrack was the singer in Mike and the Mechanics. The other two members were in Genesis. Carrack sang "Tempted" with the band Squeeze.

Before that some of you may remember "How Long" he did with the band Ace.

He's sung on several hits but most people don't know who he is.

                            Silent Running bump for Sapiens

Take your children and yourself and hide out in the cellar.
By now the fighting will be close at hand.
Don't believe the church and state
                            and everything they tell you.
                            Believe in me
                            I'm with the high command.

                            Can you hear me
                            can you hear me running?
                            Can you heal me running
can you hear me calling you?
                            Can you heal me
                            can you hear me running?
                            Can you hear me running
can you hear me calling you?

                            There's a gun and amnunition just inside the doorway;
                            Use it only in emergency.
Better you should pray to God
                            the father and the spirit.
Will guide you and protect you from up here.
                            Can you hear me
can you hear me running? . . .

Show allegiance to the flag whatever flag they offer.
Never hint at what you really feel.
Teach the children quietly for some day sons and daughters.
Will rise up and fight where we stood still.

                            Can you hear me
can you hear me running? . . .

Having spent my high school years during the mid 80's, this particular tune came roaring back into my head about a year or so ago.
