Regarding the thread Swine Flu Could Cause Pandemic, WHO Says in the subscription area.

Q: Why iTulip is keeping the information in the paid subscription area for Swine Flu outbreak?

A: Content in the free area of iTulip.com is protected only by copyright law, which on the Internet means virtually no protection at all. Content we charge for is protected under a far wider range of property law. A far higher degree of "confidentiality" can be maintained in a pay area. We also find that because of the extra protections theft of content from the subscription area is close to zero. This higher level of protection allows us to present information in the subscription area that we cannot provide on a public forum.

We have special and unique sources of information on the swine flu outbreak that we cannot reveal on a public forum for this reason. If we move the thread to the free area we will have to delete all references to who our contacts are and who they work for. If that suits subscribers, we can do that.

I just don't understand why people are upset. As long as a post doesn't get moved from free to pay, (we've been there, done that) everything else is at the descretion of the user.

Agree, and again, just disagree on public health, Itulip's propriatary economic thought, yeah it's theirs, so they should be able to turn it into a revenue stream. Didn't argue against that. My "critique" focused on a very specific set of points. (Making money from offering GOOD advice was NOT included).

iTulip is entitled to its revenue. Information is not free unless the parties intent to share it for free, keep the paid subscription content in its area and the public information likewise.

i'm with grg on this... $250 is cheap. i'd subscribe just to be reminded to not sell my gold over the past few years when it was sorely temping, what with all the deflation talk. that's saved me at least $250 a year in taxes and transaction fees. and i trust no one else to tell me when the gigs up and to sell gold for good... and that day will surely come.

and to not invest in mining stocks... another big money saver. wait, they're coming back now! investors who bought in 2007 have made half their $$$ back. woo hoo! i don't consider recouping half my losses a 'win'. i call avoiding all losses for over ten years and making 7% a year a 'win'.

ej strikes me as a businessman...

by the view counts on the select articles I see approx. 1000 paid subscribers @ $250 (not counting their corp. subscribers... can't tell them apart) that's $250k.

last year when itulip charged $100 instead of $25 they had closer to 1500 subscribers.

                $100 x 1500 = $150k

                $250 x 1000 = $250k

$150K vs $250. huh. guess it was underpriced before.

itulip stands accused by socialist trolls of... doing good business!

that is called 'capitalism' folks. i like it.

if you don't like it you should hope itulip takes a hit to its track record else if it keeps making the macro calls they might raise the price to $500 and lose only a few dozen who don't see that much value. 99/100 will downshift quietly to the free area while socialists whine and bitch about "non-kosher" pricing, while they suck on their favorite state beer.
You're a funny acserbic kind of guy. But your attention to detail could use some work. Re-read what I wrote before you start taking the point I was making in your own direction or steer clear please, thanks.

was in a extra acerbic mood last night. sorry... but your accusations of 'non-kosher' are way off base.. you are free to pay or not. your choice... and your repeated opinion that you ought to get paid or get a discount for your brilliant posts... well... think about how that makes others feel.

i'd pay for grg's and jk's posts and rogermex and a bunch of others. as a matter of fact, i do. we all pay to have a forum to go to that's not run like a boys' club/pesonality cult (ann's post was over the top but she's spot on with the dk comments). disagree with dk and your thread goes to 'tin foil hat'. disagree more and you're banned. did you see ej's posts there last week? goes there to defend himself and for the trouble dk accuses him of spam! what an a**hole.

free advice... don't be like the guy who walks into your favorite bar & grill and starts bitching about the food and the service and the lighting and it's too hot and or too cold and the drinks too watery and the bartender has a bad attitude and the other patrons are not as smart as you are...

what do you figure the other patrons think of that guy?

Keeping the subscribers thread as is, with all you know and the sources you got it from, is not mutually exclusive with keeping another thread going where you post whatever you can reveal publicly. Couldn't you do both? Why not post here what you can, eliminating sourcing, while continuing the subscriber thread as is?

If that's not possible, I say continue as is. (With due respect to Jtabeb. I read your posts, even if Ann doesn't. Though if she doesn't look for yours, she probably goes out of her way to avoid mine. )

Strong earthquake felt in Mexico City

MEXICO CITY – A strong earthquake struck central Mexico on Monday, swaying tall buildings in the capital and sending office workers into the streets.
The 6.0-magnitude quake was centered near Chilpancingo, about 130 miles (210 kilometers) southwest of Mexico City or 50 miles (80 kilometers) from the resort of Acapulco, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Televisa television network quoted Mexico City officials saying there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

I chose to use myself as an example not to extoll my towering intelligence (nor do I make such a claim) but because I didn't think it was right to claim to speak for others.

Point taken about the favorite bar, but I would point out that a single quip does not a bastard (nor troll) make.

it's fine as is. plenty of good info here and other free sites. the subscriber thread is extra info. that said, if ej comes up with anything big and urgent he should share it here without naming sources.

The answer I got from a female lawyer, married to a procurator, in Tashkent when I asked for some as I thought simple tax law info.
