GM Said to Preserve GMC Brand, Eliminate Pontiac in New Plan

April 24 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp., facing the threat of a bankruptcy filing if it can’t meet a June 1 U.S. deadline, will preserve the GMC truck line and drop its 83-year- old Pontiac brand as part of a government-led recalibration of its business plan, people familiar with the decision said...

So Mike, just to be perfectly clear, they are going to get rid of this:

    Pontiac G3
    Body Style: Hatchback

Performance & Efficiency: 1,598 cc 1.6 liters in-line 4 front engine with 79.0 mm bore, 81.5 mm stroke, 10.8 compression ratio, double overhead...

And they are going to keep this:

Give it up Mike...You are never going to convince us colonials to give up our pick-up trucks...

[Truth is, you can't fit a decent gun rack into that little hatchback]

Well, the Japanese and Europeans do that size better anyway, so perhaps it's concentrating on your competitive advantage.

Mega is a confirmed British car nut. All you have to do is get him into a conversation about the engineering quality in Italian sports cars and he'll be sneering so hard he'll have you hiding abjectly under the nearest desk in no time.

Well, at least they don't look so bad ...

Probably better than to shoot the people from the design department as Adam Carolla suggested at 43:20 minutes

Lamborghini wants less Audi DNA in its products

I wonder if they would be still around without the Germans

I wonder if they would still be around without the Chinese and the Arabs...
"...China is the source of Lamborghini’s strongest growth with 72 cars from 28 the preceding year, followed by the Middles Eastern region with 166 units from 100 and major markets in Asia. Sales in the US market for the brand fell by 20.3 percent with 741 cars sold in 2008 and 930 the year before that..."

My bro loves Italian cars. Lanicas, Ferraris and racing them. Tempramental buggers, but good handling & engines.

What do you want in a girl? Reliable & predictable or good looks good in bed & breaks down regularly? Same with cars I suppose.

The English have actually made some outstanding vehicles; it's only when you introduce complications like engines and electrical systems that they have trouble. (Why do the English drink warm beer? Because they have Lucas fridges!)

Re: Mega will love this news...

I have a GMC half-ton pickup and a Ford diesel one-ton pickup, both with more than a quarter of a million miles on them now. Still planning to run them until the wheels fall off.

And not a hatchback, Bimmer or Italian supercar among them...

                          1. Ford F-250 Super Duty

                          2. Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

                          3. Chevrolet Suburban

                          4. Toyota 4Runner

                          5. Ford Expedition

                          6. GMC Sierra 2500HD

                          7. Chevrolet Tahoe

                          8. GMC Yukon XL

                          9. Toyota Sequoia

                          10. GMC Sierra 1500
