FRED, are you saying that there are no more banksters lining up to buy overpriced Grey Goose?

Yeah - A graph for volume instead of price would give a better view. I think the volume will not go down. A Christian Brothers Brandy is a very good deal over a Hennessy Cognac.

If that chart is measuring consumption in volume and not bonars we are in much worse shape than I even imagined. I need a drink ;)

Well, I for one, am buying more of the cheaper wines and beers than I did a year ago.

I don't see increases in wine prices currently. My local grocery store has more wines showing reduced prices than anything else. I don't see any increases.

Dont know about this chart. I own two Liquor stores in midwest, sales are up 7% compared to last year in absolute dollars.

Yep, I'd agree. Barhopping down, home parties up. Net result, more volume purchases (I'd agree the quality levels have dropped -- we're not buying the expensive wines anymore either).

And on that note, I'm getting inundated by the wine shops advertising specials and clearances. Can't remember the last time I saw that at any substantial level.

Beer keeps me ahead of inflation.

This doesn't include "unofficial" output from all of the new moonshine stills that have been set up here in NY state now that they're about to double the liquor tax again.

Maybe commercial sales of alcohol have gone down in the depression, but moonshine under the table sales are soaring!

                              i've been doing my part!

i actually dont believe this chart either... though the $6 - $18 cocktails I have always been offended by at swanky bars has to end now.
