    Re: Peak everything...

Use extrapolations at the turn of the century predicted American cities would be overwhelmed by...horseshit. Cars solved that one. I'm not siding with 'miracle' technologies solving the above graphic. Just an over-reliance on 'facts'. What I do think is that political economic systems, and not natural resources, will be the key. Which makes me more pessimistic than the graph.

And people don't see the importance of space exploration, Sheesh! Dumbasses, It's called Resource supply!!!!

It's is VERY simple, either we are able to utilize resources beyond that is provided on the earth (space, lot a materials in space, ya know), or you have it exactly right we kill off enough of the population (on purpose or just by accident) to make the existing supply of resources last longer.

I would PREFER SPACE EXPLORATION myself.

Just as long as the billions dying are mostly brown or yellow or disadvantaged young men economically, socially and educationally in our own societies huh? would be crazy to be lumping oursleves, our family members or our friends into those to "die" category, anyway decreasing our own consumption habits is so much more difficult then murder

We've got a SPAM post here that needs to be moved to Rant & Rave cause it was already discussed at length here many months ago and we don't need to reinvent the wheel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Metals can be recycled, at least. BadJuju is always here with a positive spin on things.

I think the number one problem is Governance and connected to that Rule Of Law. I hear of lots of economic, scientific experiments but I know of none anywhere in the World where Governance is being experimented with. Unless we figure that out and very fast it's game over. We seem actually to be retrogressing in this area. For example, some talk now of Totalitarian solutions to energy problems.

scroll to the right of the image, see how much of each metal is recycled.

metalmen here to put a negative spin on things.

But recycling will increase as time goes on.

                      Environment: Did You Know?

                      Environmental / Recycling Facts
                      • Nearly 90 percent of automotive aluminum is recovered and recycled
                      • There is no limit to the number of times aluminum can be recycled
                      • The energy required to recycle aluminum is only 5 percent of that used to produce aluminum from its original source, bauxite ores
                      • Recycling reduces energy consumption, and saves 95 percent of the greenhouse gases associated with primary production

neat, huh? except... how much better than 90% are we gonna get?

And I always thought "metalman" was in reference to "heavy metal" as represented by your dashing image from cover of LZ II.

Morpheus... "humans are not mammals... they move to an area & multiply and multiply, until all natural resources are consumed... they are like virus" Youtube clip from the Matrix

The machines had the right idea... let the humans imagine they are consuming, but in fact it was all virtual consumption from within a glorified coffin!
                            I love that movie :-)

Maybe we should all just get a Second Life.
