I wouldn't take it too seriously. At least in Texas, Governor Perry was pandering to his very right-wing base when he said that.

Governor Perry is not too popular right now, even with Republicans, and it looks like he will likely lose in next Republican primary to his rival, Kay Bailey Hutchinson.

There's a great thread, though, over on Clusterstock, with a lot of funny comments on this very issue of Texas and secession.

      From my local state's "paper":

Finally, the resolution states that if Congress, the president or federal courts take any action that exceeds their constitutional powers, the Constitution is rendered null and void and the United States of America is officially disbanded. As an example, the resolution specifically states that if the federal government enacts “prohibitions of type or quantity of arms or ammunition,” the country is disbanded.
Scary stuff indeed. But I don't get the point of nullifying it altogether. It seems they want to trash it so they can re-write it in their favor. Anyone in support of this has suspect motives, at best.

Isn't it about time that Prognosticator of US Collapse Dmitri Orlov and his video are restored and rehabilitated from the Siberia of Rant n' Rave? Even the Tsar occasionally showed such mercy.

Texas leaving the US? If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

That 586 site is great - I love the spirit of togetherness and problem resolution being displayed there.

While Perry's posturing is clearly a bit of grandstanding, on the other hand we are seeing today exactly what the State's Rights folks were envisioning way back in the founding days of this nation.

The federal government is playing so fast and loose with its fiscal powers of tax, spend and print that that the individual states (and individual people) are all going to get dragged down by the consequences.
