Re: HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009

I only purchase stolen weapons, that way they are untraceable, except for the poor schmuck who lost his weapon.

They can take my weapons from my cold dead hands.

    Bring it Big Brother!

P.S. I own no fire arms.

An excellent piece of advice, the magazines should be changed once a year as the springs becomes fatigued from loaded storage.

No SPRINGS become fatigued from repeated cycles of loading and unloading.

Besides just short load your mag cap by 15% is a much better way of keeping them ready for use over a long time period.

I don't much care to have automatics for home defense though. The best is probably 44 specials in a 44 mag if you worry about going through walls. Why have to spackle the dry wall in several rooms? You always have the option to deal with criminals wearing body armor as well with such a loyal big buddy like that by going up to a 1000 foot pounds. The nice thing about revolvers is no internal stress. With automatics you should to change out magazines on a timely basis because they use springs. I have them, but they are not in a home defense role.
I went with the semi-automatic after reading that blog by the guy in Argentina that told his story of going thru their economic turmoil. He said one of their big problems there was car-jackings and/or getting robbed while in or around your car. He also said he heard of many stories in which armed "pirates" (to use today's popular term) would drive-up next to an isolated vehicle and start showing guns and threatening the driver of the vehicle. He said a semi-automatic was the weapon of choice in these instances because you wanted volume, not accuracy if the perps didn't back-off. To me, that seemed to make sense for home security also. I may or may not shoot at someone if the time comes, but I'm gonna make a helluva lot of noise. For what it's worth, he also said a 4-wheel drive vehicle would have been nice to have at the time.

Gotta love the renewed activity surrounding the 10th amendment. I've been seeing and hearing multiple 10th amendement related stories, specifically in Oklahoma and Texas. Maybe this is gonna be the revolution we keep hoping for...States rights coming to the fore.

Frankly, I don't like any new laws regarding firearms, but this Holt law isn't any different from what one has to go through to buy a gun in California.

I wasn't so worried about the potential gun ban as I was interested in basic self-defense in the face of rising unemployment and crime. Honestly, and unexpectedly, I feel I am actually sleeping better at night knowing that I have a 12ga in the closet.
                  Good on ya!

I would encourage you to seek out a local gun club or local firearms classes for some tuition on safe handling and application....plus it's fun.

I'd suggest maybe a 3-gun club(pistol, long-rifle, shotgun) that focuses on safety and practical use.

                  Good luck with it.

There's a couple different schools of thought on magazine springs.

On operations we'd load 28 or 29 rounds in a 30 round magazine. We would also cycle 1 spare empty magazines daily resulting in each loaded magazine getting a break every fortnight.....a simple sustainable routine that would likely exceed most personal home stored firearms needs.

Storing magazines loaded long-term is just one more very quick, minor, and occasional home maintenance issue in my opinion.

Some magazines can handle long-term storage far better than others so it's quite dependant on the particular magazine(and even more dependant on manufacturer and build quality).....just my 0.02c

Different tools for different jobs(and different opinions).......

                      What's better a Ferrari or a Porsche?

I'd say it depends on the driver.....

I always encourage those who ask to budget a bit less on their firearms, and budget a bit more on their safe handling, effective training, and training ammunition.

Absolutely, IMO it should be viewed as a craft.

This is what I do, I rotate every month or so.

Your mag assessment, quality affecting storage performance is spot on. It's not only the spring(s) that may be affected, but the shape of the mag itself that may warp over time (and you may find yourself in an awkward spot when trying to use it).

The dems want to stay in power. They remember after the assault ban was passed the backlash cost them the house. So don't expect to hear much noise on gun control.....yet. But you can believe it's on the agenda of the messiah and his AG. How anyone could not own a firearm and know how to use it is beyond me. As a husband, father and head of house the protection of my family is my most important job. You cannot rely on the police to protect your family. Ask anyone who was in New Orleans during katrina. It was the wild wild west and the cops were actually DISARMING the honest civillians.

I think that's a big part of the reason a lot of people choose not to live in California. I know it plays a big part for me.

Actually (and Honestely) if my friend who was a DNC delegate is to believed (which I do) there is no political appetite for more gun control measures on the part of the Democratic party precisely BECAUSE of the back-lash it would cause.

I doubt you see ANY efforts to restrict weapon types (that aren't already on the books), but this Mexico drug war thing may be the start of something more serious with the proposed legistation about inspection/registartation and prohjibition on private gun sales.
