The Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act would establish a nationwide system for prohibiting unlicensed gun-ownership. We just learned yesterday about this on the Peter Boyles radio program.
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the radar.

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

.It is registered
.You are fingerprinted
.You supply a current Driver's License
.You supply your Social Security #
.You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing

.Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25

- Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.

.There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.

The Government would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.

It has no co-sponsors at this point & has been sent to committee. Also, Pelosi & Redi recently said they would not support a revival of the assault-weapons ban. I think the establishment has put gun-control on the back-burner ... for now.

I certainly contributed to the rise in gun sales. I never, ever owned a gun...until the past few months. Now I have a semi-automatic handgun and a 12ga shotgun. I wasn't so worried about the potential gun ban as I was interested in basic self-defense in the face of rising unemployment and crime. Honestly, and unexpectedly, I feel I am actually sleeping better at night knowing that I have a 12ga in the closet.

I certainly contributed to the rise in gun sales. I never, ever owned a gun...until the past few months. Now I have a semi-automatic handgun and a 12ga shotgun. I wasn't so worried about the potential gun ban as I was interested in basic self-defense in the face of rising unemployment and crime. Honestly, and unexpectedly, I feel I am actually sleeping better at night knowing that I have a 12ga in the closet.

Same here, never owned a gun before, 6 months ago bought a glock 9mm.... Don't feel much safer, since i cant find any damned ammo ;)

Seriously, did any of you catch that the sponsor of the bill is Bobby Rush, who served 6 months in jail in 1969 on a firearms related conviction
Bobby Rush was a Black Panther, you know, those guys who were always posing with weapons and who killed a few dozen police in the '60s.
I guess self-defense was good enough for the black panthers but not for the rest of us.

Bobby Rush also sponsored a "National Bible Week" resolution. I think he may be a little nutty.

I agree with MMs "poking a hornet's nest" comment. The Democrats have a history of doing this. They get J6P to abandon the GOP for long enough to get elected, by appealing to various populist urges, promising to "create jobs", etc., then they show their essentially elitist, statist ways (remember hillarycare?) and the republicans make "surprising gains" in the next election cycle (Newt Gingrich and the contract with america)

The now expired Clinton "assault weapons ban" recruited huge numbers of low income and rural people who could care less about tax rates to the Republican fold. The smarter national Democrats are learning this.

Have you tried ordering any paper pushers through places like Cabelas? If you don't mind the wait its an ok way to stock up on cheap practice ammo.

A buddy and I, both avid target shooters (he hunts) were talking and laughing about this bubble yesterday.

Ammo aside, firearms tend to be fairly durable goods. Wonder what will happen to the companies producing them after this buying spree is done?

I got it, we need the fed to offer a lending program so that they can begin trade-loading those that missed out.

Btw - look into encoded and registered ammunition, easier politically than the bill you posted.

I went through this transition a decade ago with the assault ban. I even did a little hand loading and slug testing in the basement and a little practice with a 22 cal trap. Sub sonic 38 pistol loads in 35 Remington rifle and brass was kinda of fun.
I don't much care to have automatics for home defense though. The best is probably 44 specials in a 44 mag if you worry about going through walls. Why have to spackle the dry wall in several rooms? You always have the option to deal with criminals wearing body armor as well with such a loyal big buddy like that by going up to a 1000 foot pounds. The nice thing about revolvers is no internal stress. With automatics you should to change out magazines on a timely basis because they use springs. I have them, but they are not in a home defense role.
