I exaggerate. I love Walt. Who in SF doesn't when his family is building the Walt Disney "the man" Museum in the Presidio. Talk about sacred ground....

Disney Expert Uses Science to Draw Boy Viewers

    By BROOKS BARNES

LOS ANGELES — Kelly Peña, or “the kid whisperer,” as some Hollywood producers call her, was digging through a 12-year-old boy’s dresser drawer here on a recent afternoon. Her undercover mission: to unearth what makes him tick and use the findings to help the Walt Disney Company reassert itself as a cultural force among boys.

Ms. Peña, a Disney researcher with a background in the casino industry, zeroed in on a ratty rock ’n’ roll T-shirt. Black Sabbath?

“Wearing it makes me feel like I’m going to an R-rated movie,” said Dean, a shy redhead whose parents asked that he be identified only by first name.
    Jackpot.

Ms. Peña and her team of anthropologists have spent 18 months peering inside the heads of incommunicative boys in search of just that kind of psychological nugget. Disney is relying on her insights to create new entertainment for boys 6 to 14, a group that Disney used to own way back in the days of “Davy Crockett” but that has wandered in the age of more girl-friendly Disney fare like “Hannah Montana.”

As I'm reading through this thread, the ad at the top is none other than a Disney ad with Mickey Mouse.

      LOL.

As every parent knows...at some point in your kid's life you have to pay the Mouse. About 3 years ago I sold the panels for a solar walkway to Disney. It felt good to have the Mouse paying me but I've still got a kid under 10 so I'm sure the little rat will get it all back. When will Disney start their own university so they can continue to collect from you after your kids turn 18?

And what about the anthropologist? When did those folks stop scamming native peoples and start hustling children for corporations? I took one class in anthro 3rd year and my take away was that these people really enjoy working in an environment where they are more powerful than their subjects.

And the parents...sure you can crawl inside my kid's head but you can only use his first name. Maybe that's Disney's secret. Everyone's got a little scam going and they know just where to tap in. Time to unplug Neo.

Yes. I've gone through all that and now i have the worst of both worlds. Grand kids that are totally Disni-fied and parents who think Disney and all of the worst corporate crap imaginable is Great...Lots Of Fun...Hah Hah. Luckily for me they live on the other coast, in the weird and wonderful exurbia of Pennsylvania, where the guys discuss if they're going to mow the lawn this weekend or trim the hedges. Really. (Maybe this should be posted on Why Americans Don't Revolt  )
