  • Federal Government’s Probable Reaction to a “Cybersecurity Emergency” as Totalitarianism Manifest.

    1. Should Obama Control the Internet?
    http://www.motherjones.com/politics/...ntrol-internet

Will Itulip be accessible when our current state of hyper-deindustrialization finally forces Obama to declare a cybersecurity emergency for purposes of information control by the FIRE economy aristocracy?

If hyper-deindustrialization continues on its current path, doesn’t it make the promotion of conflict, both between states and among persons residing in those states, a political necessity?

Re: Federal Government’s Probable Reaction to a “Cybersecurity Emergency” as Totalitarianism Manifes

Lots of ground here to cover.

My first reaction was to be reminded of the Wright Brothers prediction that the airplane would make war obsolete since reconnaissance abilities of the airplane would alert countries of large troop movements near their border, making offensive operations impossible. They totally missed the offensive capabilities of the airplane.

Just as many predicted the internet would allow democracy to flourish due to grass roots, cyber movements; people forget that despots can use the internet to their own means as well.

As the bill mentions, cyberspace is now a major national resource and cyber security is a major national security issue. No argument there. As a matter of fact, the next major war the US may fight will likely see cyberspace as a major theater of operations.

The federal government has the ability to shutdown all US airspace in the event of an attack and they in fact, exercised that ability on 9/11. This seems to be an extension of the federal governments ability to control and even shut down avenues of commerce in an emergency.

Like the Patriot Act, it may be a good idea, but who keeps the powerful in check?

Wright Brothers weren't the only inventors to make that incorrect assumption.

How's this for a nightmare? EJ awakens from a troubling dream. A nightmare, really. He just dreamt vividly, of how he got tired of running this place and sold it for a princely fee to Microsoft Networks, who used iTulip's former cachet to rebrand mainstream financial analysis channels with a bit of "the iTulip zing"? This new MSN owned subsidiary runs 24/7 providing an "iTulip-flavored" financial news center which gets branded with a lime-green color and takes the major networks by storm, with a suitably watered down iTulip-ish "style" resembling hard hitting financial analysis. ... EJ awakens up from this bad dream in a cold and foreboding sweat - he dreamed he sold his website and it's entire community (all sold down the river), off to MSN MONEY, who generously offered to "franchise" the iTulip "brand".

Have you ever noticed that these nasty pieces of legislation, when reported in the MSM always say the following:

The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president.

It seems to me that the powers that be are doing their best to avoid raising the alarm felt by the masses to the point of actual revolt.

From that, I take it that they would not just shut down the internet for a prolonged period of time. Everyone under the age of 50 or so ;) would notice and be outraged. Rather they might shut it down briefly, or attempt more refined blockages.

The brief outages would require alternative communication means (what were those ... pony express, carrier pigeon, smoke signals, short wave, walking next door, gathering in the town square, hanging up flyers, ...?) The more refined blockages (and spying) are a constant game of cat and mouse that will not end so long as there are both cats and mice.
Most folks are good; a few aren't.
