    Vit D exists in two main forms: D2 and D3. D2 is what you get through diet; it's made in plants and invertebrates. D3 is made in the skin with UV light. Both D2 and D3 will raise serum levels of the active hormone. D3 seems to be more effective, but is also more expensive to supplement.
