To compare the terminal attack of a Harpoon to a true Ballistic missile system is like comparing apples to yugos.

BTW the harpoon is doing maybe 500 KTS (e.g. "sub-sonic") in it's terminal dive, a ballistic missile is doing like 4200 KTS +++++ ( that's for a target at MACH 7)

After all, they've only had 30 years to work on it and already know the threats exist.

The point again was simply that there are already existing missiles which approach the ship from ballistic trajectories - so that employment of a ballistic approach whether from 2000 feet or 10 miles isn't a surprise like the first hand grenades dropped from WW I biplanes.

it is DongFeng 21C mid-range ballistic missile, also called "air carrier killer". Uncle Sam would have to really think twice before sending his battle groups within its attack range(2,500km).

I can't believe this topic is back, and actually the proported missile is the "d" version which did not make an appearance at the parade. Either way, I'll believe it when I see an operational test of it against a live moving target drone ship. Till then I will continue to hold the opinion that this weapon system exists in the dream on a US Navy budget planner and defense contractor.
