Pleasure Boats Too Expensive to Keep Are Littering Coastlines

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. — Boat owners are abandoning ship.

They often sandpaper over the names and file off the registry numbers, doing their best to render the boats, and themselves, untraceable. Then they casually ditch the vessels in the middle of busy harbors, beach them at low tide on the banks of creeks or occasionally scuttle them outright.

The bad economy is creating a flotilla of forsaken boats. While there is no national census of abandoned boats, officials in coastal states are worried the problem will only grow worse as unemployment and financial stress continue to rise. Several states are even drafting laws against derelicts and say they are aggressively starting to pursue delinquent owners....

What a waste of wealth and capital. Aren't housing bubbles fun?

Sometimes, I think they should reflate faster so that such things are prevented...

Funny - I just bought a boat. With gas cheap I thought why not. Good deal: used (about 320 hours and less than 10 years old) paid cash (not too many duckets) for a 27' Wellcraft with seller throwing in everything (storage stands, life jackets, gps, etc.. and freshly painted). I find insurance to be reasonable but the slip (recurring) and transfer/sales tax (a once off) a bit high.

In some ways this is a bit of reward for not losing in the markets over the past few years and actually gaining a bit in terms of USD. Also, it could be used as a small floating apartment if we go to mad max; plus you can fish from it!

      Nice video below too

If only you'd known they were free for the taking in some parts!

T-pain lives next door to my parents. Seriously. I'd never heard of the guy until a few months ago.

T-Pain? I had to look that one up.

Hilarious quote posted on his wikipedia page: T-Pain was involved in a golf-cart accident on March 27, 2009. He suffered cuts, bruises, and four missing teeth and had emergency dental work done. He returned to performing on March 29, 2009, where he said:

"There's a lot of talk that I flipped over in a golf cart, that's f---ing true. It did happen like three days ago. My ass is on fire right now. My side hurt, my mouth hurt...I bust my ass. I'd show you the marks, but I don't wanna pull my pants down right now"

Another funny story. The guy who lives on the other side of T-pain was the guy who sang that song " Moonlight Feels right" back in the 70s, Bruce Blackman. ( anybody remember that one?) He can be, lets just say, kind of cranky some times. Well T-Pain's moving van arrived at night and knocked on the wrong door, disturbing Blackman. So I heard Blackman marched next door and chewed out T-Pain's lady about being disturbed. Something tells me he didn't know who he was talking to.
