Reinventing America’s Cities: The Time Is Now

THE country has fallen on hard times, but those of us who love cities know we have been living in the dark ages for a while now. We know that turning things around will take more than just pouring money into shovel-ready projects, regardless of how they might boost the economy. Windmills won’t do it either. We long for a bold urban vision.

It's time to truly live out the dreams of the 1950's? Houses of Tomorrow?

I'll first settle for cities that can fix potholes. I am from Oklahoma, and I thought I knew what a pothole was until I was travelling through Washington D.C. That's when I found out what a pothole really was.

I agree that we don't have what it takes to build superfluous infrastructure at the moment.

From what I can tell, EastSoCal is a vast wasteland of half-empty subdivisions, abandoned shacks and shanties and virtually no commercial activity.

In New Mexico on the I-40 there are a few spots where it cuts down to one lane in each direction and the closed off lane looks like a completely abandoned construction project.
