Synthetic biology is a new area of biological research that combines science and engineering in order to design and build ("synthesize") novel biological functions and systems.
According to the debaters, this area will be moving as fast as computers have over the last twenty years. The debate is about what type of regulations should be in place. While listening all I thought of the current Financial Disaster and how it was caused.

Synthetic Biology Debate
I have been interested in this subject since I read Why the future doesn't need us., an essay at WIRED by Bill Joy, businessman and scientist and co-founder of Sun Microsystems. The essay covers bioresearch, nanotechnology and other technologies which may merge.
