China May Press G-20 to Guard Its U.S. Assets, Researcher Says

    By Li Yanping

March 24 (Bloomberg) -- China’s leaders may press at the Group of 20 summit for specific steps to protect its more than $1 trillion of dollar assets as U.S. fiscal policies risk sparking a “currency war,” a senior Chinese researcher said.

The dollar weakened after the Federal Reserve said March 18 it would buy as much as $300 billion of Treasuries and the U.S. this week outlined plans to buy as much as $1 trillion of illiquid bank assets.

U.S. purchases of Treasuries are “irresponsible” because they may weaken the dollar, Li Xiangyang, of the government- backed Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told a forum in Beijing today. “Chinese leaders are likely to articulate their concern to their U.S. counterparts strongly and ask for specific measures.”
Sounds like China are about to fudge their undies

I'll bet we cave to their demands since they have us by the short hairs. Our government will find some way to "make 'em whole" covertly thru a middleman bank or something to keep from spooking the markets. Don't under estimate uncle Benny and turbo timmy!

when you owe the bank $100k, you have a problem. when you owe the bank $1trillion, THEY have a problem. the chinese are becoming increasingly and uncomfortably aware of this old adage.

Especially since we have a habit of rubbing it in. Niall Ferguson wrote a good article on this as it relates to China in 2005.
          Our Currency, Your Problem

Every member of Congress knows that the United States currently runs large “twin deficits” on its budget and current accounts. Deficit 1, as we well know, is just the difference between federal tax revenues and expenditures. Deficit 2 is generally less well understood: it’s the difference between all that Americans earn from foreigners (mainly from exports, services, and investments abroad) and all that they pay out to foreigners (for imports, services, and loans). When a government runs a deficit, it can tap public savings by selling bonds. But when the economy as a whole is running a deficit—when American households are saving next to nothing of their disposable income—there is no option but to borrow abroad.

Sounds like Ben and Tim need to propose a public-private partnership, with taxpayer funded guaranteed returns, to buy some of the Chinese "assets" back from them. That'll give the Chinese enough money that they can go back to buying more of the stuff from the US government, and returning all of us back to the glorious days of yesteryear. That is how it's supposed to work, isn't it?

Can't understand why Bill Gross hasn't already been proposing same on CNBC...

China have been exporting everything but their currency. What's missing is that they make their rmb backed by gold.

China has long known that to get to Pole polsition she would have to deal with the Anglo-American Empire. Very skillfully she polsitioned it where it felt safe & secure......even in the believe that very soon "They" could take over China like "They" had America & control her Prez just like all those post Andrew Jackson types.

                  Not so.

The "Trap" was skillfully baited, China waited....

Very soon America/British will have been delt with, not a shot fired & China get the World.............We are now in the finial Chapter of this tale of greed & waste.............death of an Empire......the birth of another.

                    Poetically put.

The key phrase is 'China waited'. Something only the Chinese have the horizon to be able to do these days.

When I first moved to the Arabian Gulf I was trying to learn some Arabic. The young boy who brought our coffee took pity. Told me the best way to learn the language was to marry a nice Arab girl. Said he would help me find just the right one. When I protested that I couldn't legally have more than one wife at a time, he informed me that in his country that was no impediment...merely required me to make some "minor adjustments" in my religious inclinations.

The only way to extricate myself from this predicament was to plead poverty...I can't begin to describe the histrionics required to convince him I couldn't afford the wife I already had, and a second was completely out of the question.
