Exactly. The Fed has the will to manipulate the price of oil, but not the resources. The fed has the resources to manipulate the price of gold, but not the will.
CB's just don't look at gold from a historical perspective anymore, IMHO. They view it as a relic from the dark ages of pre-fiat, and an investment for the financially ignorant. If and when they come around and start caring about gold, it will be when it's already through the roof anyway.
Until somebody digs up a speech where Ben Bernanke talks at length about the importance of cheap gold, I'll remain unconvinced that the Fed poses a credible danger to my investment.
