Well fear not Lukester, it won't. Gold love and dollar fear has gone mainstream and this time around it's not a contrarian indicator.

$900 is the new line of resistance in the real world. SPDR will continue to reach record highs (now the 6th largest holder of gold in the world.

In the last month alone I've convinced three other regular guys with savings to start buying bullion during windows such as the one that closed yesterday.

Every day the crowd of grows larger and larger - less faith in the dollar - less faith in the Fed - less faith in the administration.

Went to the bank yesterday to fondle my American Eagles. I'm buying at $900 and below and don't plan to sell below $2,000.

And Lukester, it is better here in Greater Key West.

I think it had more to do with the Fed starting to buy Treasuries rather than just people going crazy over how gold is spiking.

Hey Lukester... can you let us know when you start buying?

            TIA ;)

              WDCRob -

Yes, I will let you know when I start buying, but I don't think you will like that for a sell point on your own accounts. I'm looking for that signal within 12 months. At Walmart prices. I really enjoy Babbittd's posts. He's one of iTulip's best and brightest researchers and up to speed on seemingly everything.

But I'm gonna frame his comments above and plaster them on these pages as emblematic of how apparently all of iTulip's bright minds are thinking right now - I'll have to ask everyone caught in the groupthink six months from now - "what were you guys thinking when you started chasing this metal in the spring of 2009"?

I believe when I start deploying a big chunk of cash then, that you (and apparently many others here) will be looking around at the available sell prices (to take advantage of the "Lukester sell signal"), and you'll be feeling just a wee bit queasy. I'm looking to stay long the USD, get long North American equities, and a footprint in gold but firmly below 30% for the next 2 years.

"Went to the bank yesterday to fondle my American Eagles". I hear ya Jeff. They are indeed a reassuring asset to have in 2009, as events do seem to be getting a little squirrely out there.

Since nobody answered your question ...

Once you upload a file (which you seem to know how to do) ...

... click on the down-arrow next to the "paper clip". Then select which picture you want to appear.

If you go to "advanced mode" you can click on "preview post" and you should see how your post will look. It's in the FAQ somewhere.

Upload the file to a 3rd party service such as http://imageshack.us/, then enter the URL of the image into the URL field when you click on the landscape icon above.

you already have the files on iTulip

look at the URL at iTulip -

1 on the left type this <img src="
                        2 then the url
                        3 then type ">

for step 2, I right-click, choose "copy link location" (will be different in internet explorer) and paste it in the right position

                          Price of gold in NZD:

                          gold-nzd.png

It has more than doubled since it started its big run started in July 2008, driven by the NZD vs. USD weakness. It's down 15% since it peaked in mid-Feb.

After it's big run-up, my guess is that it will be flat-to-down in NZD for a while longer, corresponding to weakness in the USD. My bet is that we haven't seen the end of "ka" yet. There's still a lot of demand destruction happening, and US foreclosures / mortgage losses don't seem to be close to peaking.

In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if a failure in current stock rally ends up driving sentiment far below where it was before the rally started.

You have to bear in mind though that many here have been in gold for years too. If they were chasing gold in 2000-2006 and just holding onto what they've got now are they still foolish?

I'm sure you would like to smack me upside the head though, I only started buying some silver in early 2008.

Who is chasing anything but tail in the Spring of 2009?

I bought all of my silver rounds in the period Sept. 2001 through December 2002 (for half-baked reasons after 9/11) and all gold in 2007 and again in the fall of 2008. So yeah, those investments are doing quite fine.
