The journalists are usually too thick to notice the causes. They show this guy who had a job for thirty years and is now rendered homeless. I am pretty sure he became homeless because he lost all his savings in "The Great Greenspan Housing Bubble of 2001-2007". He probably borrowed too much money and lost it in a foreclosure.

This tent city story is media hype. I'm from Sacramento, and there has always been people living by this area.

From the article, why are the major and a councilman hyping this? Is Sacramento that desperate for a bit more cash?

“We’ve tried to sweep the homeless under the rug and it’s been our dirty little secret for far too long,” said the mayor, who took office three months ago and whose status as a former Phoenix Suns basketball star has helped attract media attention to the tent city. “We’ve been relying on good Samaritans and nonprofits, but they’re overwhelmed now.”

Tent cities — much like the “Hoovervilles” of the Depression — have sprung up elsewhere around the country. But Sacramento, with one of the highest foreclosure rates, has one of the biggest, with a population of “easily 300,” said Rob Fong, a Sacramento city councilman, and it is “definitely growing.”
“It’s an unfortunate sign of the times,” he said
          .

            Hi Mega,

All people can't save. We have a credit money system.

Take myself as a point in case, i got savings..............my company has savings.........i can now run for 2-4 years without a job coming in if i have to.

Once the recession is over & the £ has crashed i be busy again.
