  • other gold ETFs?

here's a question on gold etfs.
for various reasons, i would prefer not to hold physical gold but do etfs instead. unfortunately, my gold is in GLD, and yes, i belatedly found out about the problems and risks it has, specifically in not being fully backed by physical.

are there better gold etf alternatives out there? i'm looking at zkb on the swiss exchange now. is that an improvement?

There's another closed end fund, GTU, that is related to CEF, that is only gold. Also, people should be aware that both are Canadian entities, although they trade in NY. GTU (GTU.UN in Canada) is thinly traded in NY. Finally CEF and GTU are closed end funds, not ETFs. They can trade at significant premiums to NAV. You can see the premium based on the daily close on their websites.

All this stuff has been covered before in other posts on iTulip by other members. If you use the search feature you'll find a lot of info from a lot of knowlegable folks on this site on this topic.

I own CEF and GTU in tax deferred accounts only as they need some special tax reporting due to there status as a foreign investment something or other.

            An article on CEF GTU:

I do not hold either but am considering.

I seem to recall seeing a post a while back [from jk??] that the tax treatment for closed end funds like CEF, for US taxpayers in taxable accounts is superior to holding the ETF or bullion. Maybe whomever posted that can refer to the link [or metalman who seems particularly skilled at finding all the good stuff in the archive].
