  • Fifth currency- How about the iTulip Universal Currency Unit?

1 Silver ozt .999 = 1 iTulip Universal Currency Unit?

Can iTulip develop its own unit of exchange?

Let's heard what you suggest and what would you be willing to trade for it?

Can't see any reason the iUCU wouldn't be recieved as a "hard" currency.

We'll back it with metalman's and jtabeb's combined ammunition inventory. That should give it credibility, non?

Oui, plus a substantial herd of prime cattle down in Argentina. Re LargoW's card collection, too easy to counterfeit with photoshop and whatnot.

I'd suggest shortening the name to just: iTulip Currency Unit.

iCU - because when you need it, well, it'll be obvious...

In that case it makes Jay the logical nominee as Comptroller of the Currency...;)

Those are all good ideas, but people want something with lasting value to back their currency. Try this on: We have a new currency backed by credit default swaps on the US government debt. Think about it. The chance of default just keeps going up so we have our money worth more and more. If the government defaults we just reset and do it over and over again. Put that Zimbabwean-style money management to good use.

                What do you say?

the new currency will be leather, used for the whips to force people to work for oligarchs.

In Rocky and Bullwinkle they use boxtops as the foundation of the global economy. I think these would work perfectly. Deflation wouldn't be an issue as the population grows we would naturally consume more cereal. As it shrinks we would consume less. They would even have a natural sink as nobody can resist government issued atomic powered roller skates. And the only way to get a pair is to turn in boxtops.

We just need to address Boris Badinov counterfeiting them and a moose who eats 80,000 boxes of cereal a year and we can be well on our way to recovery.

The point of a gold or silver backed currency is the weight of gold or silver involved - any other branding or whatever would be immaterial.

Let's imagine Robert Mugabe, King Abdulla, Angela Merkel, Nicholas Sarkozy, Vladimir Putin, Hu Jintao and Barack Obama all issue a gold backed currency. Are you sure you would you view them as all the same? :p

Careful - this has been tried and not received to well by the USSA. The Fed. Reserve does not like competition for it's FRNs.

Good point about Barack - suppose the US is the country to have most recently defaulted on a gold backed currency - it could happen again.

If 1 Oz Ag = 1 ICU isn't an ICU nothing more than a name?
